I don't know about the holding back, but if you get this product called "Airborne" for kids. It's NOT medicine. It's herbs and other natural products that will help boost and maintain the immune system. It was developed by a 3rd grade teacher who was sick of being sick.
It also has a great taste ...and since you disolve it in water, it's easy for them to take.
You can find Airborne (for both kids and adults) in the Pharmacutial isle of the grocery store or Wal-Mart or Target

I know it is no fun for anyone, but you are going to just have to let him get sick. Most kids this age get sick quite a bit--it is nature's way of building up their immune systems. Asthma makes it trickier--get him a flu shot each year and keep him home when he is sick. Kindergarten teachers should understand that kids get sick a lot. If you are in the US, remember that kindergarten is not even required, so he will not be held back for missing school. He would only be held back if he was not developmentally ready for 1st grade.

YOu've answered your own question in that he's getting sick lots now because he hasn't been exposed to these germs before. You'll just have to let him go through the process and naturally build up his immunity. Talk to teacher and maybe he/she can encourage other parents of sick kids to keep them at home?

Just an idea I'm throwing out ... but have you ever wondered if its school thats making him sick? You quote "He has never really been around other kids before" So I'm wondering what if his nerves are making him sick. Alot of kids who especially aren't Socially active much, can make themselves so nervous they get sick. Definatly with your son having Asthma, he could panic and get worried/ home sick, and that could make him get sick as well.
I'm not in your household, so I wouldn't really know, its just an Idea
Best of Luck to ya!

Unfortunately, kids pass everything to one another. If your son has not been around kids, he's been pretty sheltered from a lot of sicknesses that pass. Now being around kids his immune system with strengthen itself. I hope he's feeling better!

My son has asthma too..no help when it comes to respitory viruses...they make airborne for children..it's kind of just to prevent you from getting sick and strengthen your immune system...a 1st grade teacher invented it because the kids in her class were constantly sick... .also...have him drink lots of orange juice and take lots of vitamin c...they make chewable vitamin c tablets....they're available at wal-mart......,along with the airborne...good luck!!

Try to teach him to wash his hands more at school and keep his hands out of his mouth/nose, since germs are so easily spread that way. And I don't mean to sound harsh, but when the worst of it is over, try to send him to school. He does not have to stay home for a runny nose and sneezing.

This might sound silly but have you checked for allergies? My son was like that for three years and he got a new doctor and she took one look at him and said he had allergies. He's on meds every day and he's been fine since. His allergies make him sick and run a fever.
