I'm not Muslim but I've heard people answer this both ways. Apparently what it comes down to is that while the Qur'an never directly applies the word 'prophet(ess)' to Mary, it says that God _has_ sent other prophets not specifically named as such in the Qur'an. In other words, no Muslim could draw a complete list of all prophets because it's not know. So Mary concievably _could_ be a prophet(ess), even though the Qur'an doesn't call her as such.

First of all the proper Hebrew name is Yeshua, Romanized to Jesus. Isa is a creation of Muhammad. In the Protoevangelium of James, which did not make into the Biblical Canon but is nevertheless respected by many Christians, Mary was the only daughter of Joachim and Anna, who were childless. Joachim was denied by the high priests from sacrificing in the temple because he had no offspring, and so prayed for a child. As in the case of Sarah and the mother of Samuel in in the Old testament, the Lord heard the prayers and granted Anna a child. Mary was consecrated in the Temple, and lived there as one of the attending virgins until she was 14, marriageable age in that time. She was to be married as the others were, but she refused. This created a scandal and a husband was chosen for her by lottery. Joseph the Carpenter, an older widower children was reluctant to join in the lottery, but was entered anyway. When his staff flowered, He was then betrothed to Mary. After the visitation, Mary went to stay with her cousin Elizabeth, the wife of Zacharia, who was also with child in her old age. After six months she returned to Nazareth, plainly pregnant. Joseph sought to divorce her quietly until he was told in a dream to take her as a wife. The tradition has always been that Mary remained a virgin, consecrated to the temple, throughout her life. The brothers and sisters referred to in the Gospel were Joseph's older children. Mary had no other children. We know this because of Jesus' concern for her on the cross. As a widow with no remaining male children, she would have little or no protection or means of support under Jewish law. From the Cross, Jesus charged John to be her foster-son, and so take care of her as his own mother, which he did.

I have never heard (or read) anywhere that Hazrath Bibi Maryam was a Prophet, I just know she was the virgin mother of Hazrat Isa (AS.) I think the story of her and Hazrath Isa is beautiful.
