I had naturally medium brown hair last week and i colored it burgundy. My husband and i don't like it much because it looks too purplish for us. Anyways, would putting brown hairdye overtop of it get rid of the puplish hues? or any other advice? There are no good hair salons where i live! I have to do it myself
yes there are boxes of hair color ! Any shade...i dont care if its a little purple, but won't plain brown hair dye help it ??

The opposite of purple on the color wheel is yellow. Your absolute best bet would be to buy a Golden Brown. The gold will neutralize the purple, (cancel it out). Whenever a color neutralizes another, it basically turns brown.

You can try to soften the color by putting on a lot of conditioner and letting it sit for a while (put on a shower cap and go play online for a while, or something) before rinsing it out. Often, if you do that a few times, the color will fade a bit.

If that doesn't work, color over it with a warm (not red!) brown.

Try for an ash brown . . . that should nuetrlize things then wait a couple weeks let the color fade and try again . . . also most hair dye boxes have a number you can call for help on the instuctions . . . I called one time becasue my hair got f@cked up and they sent me coupons for replacement dye.

do you plan on doing this at home? or going to a salon? if your going to do it at home, try using a baking soda mix to lighten your hair a little bit before you try to dye it. use it twice a week or so, for as long as it takes to lighten up a bit. (just mix baking soda with water and some shampoo to make a paste) seeing as your hair has been died black, dying over it wont work. unless its bleach, which is super risky doing at home. if your going to a salon, they will use a colour strip (which is what the baking soda is doing, just in a matter of minuits, rather then weeks, or months) which is also rather bad for your hair, and you would need some treatment conditioner to use after to try to keep it healthy, after they strip the colour, they can dye it lighter. hope this helped.

i have my hair dyed auburn (pretty much the same thing), ive had it this color a number of times and after 2 weeks or so the color DEFINITLY fades out so dont worry too much, the best thing i can say to speed up the process is wash yur hair often

Wash your hair several times with laundery detergent and that should strip the hair of some of the dye. However, this will also dry out your hair. You will need to do a deep conditioning afterwards.

All I can advise is for you to dye it black. And then lighten it to whatever color you want. But it may be very damaging to your hair.
