To elaborate on the previous post, they used a tent, the reason for this is because they used what is called the wet plate or glass collodion process of photography. The glass plate had to be created, exposed and developed all while wet. This meant the photographer had to have immediate access to a darkroom wherever he was. For Brady and Gardner they were almost always in the field, and as such they used a tent as a portable darkroom. Below is a link explaining collodion photography.

No I don't think Brett Gardner is gonna shoot up roids and start hitting lots of home runs. Running fast on the bases, and the outfield, is his thing (like Ichiro), not hitting home runs.
