Is it because the shell is like a protection...

No.
Its because theres a pocket of water in there, and theres the watery yolk with no release of steam.
So when steam has nowhere to go....... *BOOOOM!*
The egg blows up.

1. You can if you put it in a small bowl and prick the yolk with a toothpick a couple of times. About 35 seconds.
2. You cannot microwave an egg in the shell because the microwaves cause the eggy material inside the shell to heat, expand and give off steam. This will cause the shell to explode. The same thing will happen to the egg in the bowl if you do not prick the yolk to allow the steam to escape.

You can't microwave an egg without it exploding.
All of the pressure from the contents being heated would just cause a min explosion.

If you really do want to microwave an egg without poking hole through it or breaking it first, you can always loosely wrap the egg in plastic wrap. That way, when the egg breaks, the contents don't splatter against the interior.

Yes you can microwave an egg but in order to do so you have to poke a small hole on the bottom of it. If you dont then the radiation from the microwave will cause the egg to explode and that would not be good!

You can microwave an egg if you really want to. It will make a rather large mess and a bang as heat expands and the egg will essentially blow up. If you want to eat the egg rather than make some noise you can cook it in the microwave by itself, that is crack the egg and place it in a dish with some water and cook until the eggwhites are completely white and yok is somewhat firm.

Despite what people say, you can hardboil eggs in a microwave. The secret is to make certain that they are completely immersed in water to prevent the eggs from exploding. It works as I have done it many, many times. Cook for about 10 - 12 minutes from when you see the water boil and make sure you are on highest power setting.

You can't microware an egg by itself because microwaves work by heating things from the inside out, and the expansion of the inside would cause the egg to explode. For example, you have to poke holes in the skin of potatoes if you micowave them to help relieve pressure. In the case of an egg, poking a hole would allow all the yolk and white to come out.

Because an egg will explode. The waves will go through the shell and cook the raw part of the egg causing heat and pressure to build up eventually causing the egg to get all over the inside of the oven. Try it one day to see what happens.

you can microwave the egg as long as you pierce the shell to relieve pressure. If you don't the shell acts like a pressure cooker and you risk the egg exploding all over the microwave.

you can microwave an egg if you poke a small j=hole in the shell first. without the hole the pressure gets so high in the shell that it causes the whole egg to explode with alot of force.
