Taking the lowest dosage of med and want to get off completely, but looking for a healthier, natural alternative as oppose to the meds which have lots of ugly side effects. Any ideas, web sites, herb recipes?

You could try a diet and exercise regime. I know someone with
depression that gets better from running and eating well.

I would suggest you stay on your meds on the lowest dose
especially with something like bi-polar. Or you could also see
if there are better alternatives to your medication.

There are several new prescription medications that have been approved to treat bipolar with less side effects. I would check with your doctor and explain that you would like to try some of the newer meds. The trouble with natural remedies is that they are not always monitored for strengths, ingredients, purity, etc so when trying to find the right herb, dose etc. it is just a guessing game to try and find the right combination. Bi polar is a chemical imbalance in the brain and the best thing to do much as I hate to admit this is allow medical staff to monitor the prescriptions. You certainly have my deepest compassion as I realize how hard it is to continue taking a medication that makes one feel lousy in other ways. Hopefully newer meds will be discovered soon that help in ways that don't cause so many other side effects. God bless.

I really don't believe in the whole bi-polar thing, unless you are super violent. To me, it seems that this crazy world has driven us to be at times people we are not. So many emotions running though us can cause our moods to change back and forth. Also, we as human beings can tend to be very offend by others and take things in a literal way. There are also cruel people out there that get off on making others feel down. If you are a very sensitive person, that is probably why you are experiencing these mood swings. Try meditation to get you into YOUR zone of life. Don't let others influence you in your decision making. We all just need to stay focused on the things WE want. I think if you find out who you are and stay focused and committed to ourselves then so many would not be diagnosed w/ this so called problem. The roots are deeper than you may think. Really think about how you feel. Good Luck

There are no natural alternatives for Bipolar Disorder.

If you are truely Bipolar, you need Meds. Your brain has a chemical imbalance and the only thing that will stabilize it are the meds.

Lithium is a natural-occuring salt.
In fact, they sold it as table salt in the 1950s until a bunch of people got sick, becuase they took too much.

Please, there is NOTHING that will work. Not herbs, not exercise, not drinks, or vodoo...

Studies have shown differences in the brains of people with Bipolar Disorder. It is real and it can only be controlled by proper medication.

People who say otherwise, are misinformed.

Please let me know if you find an alternative! I've stopped taking my meds because I cannot function properly, I feel like Frankenstein, like a zombie or somethine to that effect. So I'm dealing with a lot of extremities at the moment.

Checking together with your dr. is well. But a lot of them are anti typical/natural therapies. NADH with St. Jon's Wart (that's a typical MAO inhibitor). Rhodiola Rosea (an natural serotonin booster). SAMe (primary in synthesizing mind chemical compounds). There are many therapies....Linda Page positioned out a well e-book known as "Healthy Healing". One e-book of many that's very informative.
