We are the world's only super power and yet we put these little middle eastern countries on a pedistool like they are some hot shot powers themselves, why do we do this? Do we really need to talk to these backwards nations?

And Joe... you know what I would say back to you? It isn't the fleet of jets flying over the US from Syria bombing us that you have to worry about. It is a dirty bomb. It is a biological weapon unleashed in anytown USA. It is the suitcase nuclear weapon that could take out a couple of hundred thousand people all at once. You are very short sighted.

Well G_TOTHE_A, Alex is not an idiot. He is frustrated that our hands are being tied in how best to deal with countries like Iran, Syria, North Korea, Venezuella and a half dozen other little pissant countries that have the potential of bringing real harm to our interests around the world.. What is idiotic is this constant bickering that is going on between the citizens of the US. We are becoming our own worst enemies because people like you.

They are not powerful, they are unpredictable and that is where the problem is.

Countries like Iran don't care about diplomacy and they don't care about compromise. They view both of these virtues as weaknesses. They care about dominance and controling people with fear.

Alex, being the worlds only super power is a distinction that we are giving away more and more on a daily basis. As long as the people of our country continue down this path of divisive behavior it is only going to get worse. Our leaders have gone from being pro-active to situations around the world to re-active. Is it entirely their fault? No. I really don't want to point fingers I just have to hope and pray that some kind of miracle takes place that wakes the people of the US up.

It is not that they are powerful in the means of a strong defense, strong army. They are powerful because we can not trust them. We know that they hate free countries, and because of that, we need to protect those countries. Those countries that you mentioned might have nuclear, chemical weapons that they don't care where they drop and who they kill.

During the Cold war, the United States and the USSR, were in an Arms race. They knew that if one nation built a weapon bigger or better than the other, they had to then build something even bigger. However, each country was well aware that if one nation did something against the other, they were in for a retaliation.

Countries like Iran, Syria, don't really care. If they do something devastating to America, they will be looked at the nation that hurt American.

These little countries have been supplying the Sunni's and shites at will and in the process made us look like absolute fools for getting involved with Iraq if we want to accomplish anything in Iraq other than increasing body counts and national debts we have to talk to and respect our adversaries who up to this point have run an excellent campaign against us without involving their military by any standard an awesome feat of strategy. We also cannot attack them at this time as we are hopelessly bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan. If we did we would only complicate things more than they already are. Lets say we took Iran or Syria we can't control Iraq how the heck do we control yet another arab country? It is not that these countries are powerful it's just that they have us in a very vulnerable position and they know it.

Syria for longer than Israel has been in existence has been a state sponsor of terrorism against the Jews.
It's importance in the region is exclusively derived from it's willingness to block moves to peace.
In 1947 they had the unanimous support of the Arab League, and military alliances with Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt.
Now their only overt supporter is Iran.
BUT they have new power in their ability to enable attacks against us in Iraq.

Iran is a theocracy with the potential to turn the Middle East into chaos as the Iranian Shiites fight the Sunni governments of the region.
It's alliance with Syria, support and arming of Hezbolla, Hamas, it's seeking an Atomic bomb, it's rhetoric make it an implacable enemy.
Any American who wants to talk to it should have one thing to say.
We will oppose your theocratic based power grab in the region.

If iraq is not the battleground it'll just be somewhere else.

to reli and jack!! previously the 1st worldwide war Palestine replaced right into a district ruled with the help of the Turkish Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans have been defeated with the help of Britain and her allies interior the war. After WW1 Britain took administration of Palestine, yet there have been many issues between the Arabs who lived there and Jews who needed to stay there too. After the 2d worldwide war, Britain desperate to allow the United countries settle on what to do with Palestine. The United countries stated putting apart Palestine into 2 countries, one Arab and one Jewish. The Arab leaders stated no to the plan, however the Jewish leaders prevalent it and declared the state of Israel. The President of the united states gave his help to the hot state. when you consider that then Israel has set up many Jewish settlements - communities, some tiny, some as enormous as small cities - in the two the West economic employer and the Gaza Strip. those settlements are seen unlawful below worldwide regulation, besides the shown fact that Israel does not believe this.

This is the hypocrisy of our government. We boast and brag about having the best military in the world, yet we carry the mindset of "get them before they get us" which they really can't get us. As an example, if a fleet of fighter jets flew over to the US from Syria ready to attack, we would be able to launch missiles from any US military base around the world and destroy them all in the middle of the ocean without anyone ever knowing what took place.

So when people come to me with this mindset that we need to attack other countries before they get the chance to attack us, I will always ask them, "So you are saying that we are not capable of defending ourselves? Is our military so weak that we need to 'sucker punch' our enemies? Does the threat of another country taking over the US really scare you?"

And when I present them with these ideas, they get very angry and beligerant stating that none of these things are true and none of them apply to us. So then I again ask, "So why is it necessary to attack them first?" which puts them in a world of self conflict because they realize that they cant have it both ways even though they want it to be as such.

It's not necessarily that they're powerful, it's because they are "backlash states" who are unwilling to participate in international affairs and who often stand defiant in the face of the international community. Countries like these are not powerful in military strength, but due to the fact that seek to acquire WMD's make them a real threat.

You sir are an idiot. If the country was run by people like you for a long time, we would become isolated and eventually be overtaken. No one claims they are super powerful yet they are a problem for the instability of Iraq(WHICH IS OUR MAIN PROBLEM TODAY!), which they would be willing to help fix as long as they attain influence on iraq.
