I think you should take it to the vets for a thorough check up by a professional.... alternatively you could do it at home yourself with a kitchen knife and some Brandy as antiseptic!

So you're a 'caring pet owner' and your pet has a lump and instead of taking it to the vet you decide to ask us muppets on the 'interweb'! Do you really expect a serious answer on here, .... get real!

I'm pretty sure you will be taking him to the vet, and I'm sure you know that your vet is the only one who can give you a definite answer as to what the problem is.

Might be just a cyst that will just go away, might be a cyst that needs removing. Might be a tumour - could be malignant or benign. Could be a little scratch that got infected. In fact, it could be ANYTHING. There's no way anyone on here will be able to diagnose (or treat if necessary) the problem.

Panicking will do no good.

Take him into the vets as soon as they open. The sooner you do this, the sooner the problem can be dealt with - better for your cat and your peace of mind.

In the meantime - keep an eye on him. If he seems to be in pain/discomfort, or if the lump changes at all (size/shape/colour etc.), phone the vet immediately.

Good luck.

I really really really advise you to take your cat to the vet. I had a wonderful 12yrs old cat that recently had to put to sleep.

I took him for his yearly injections and check and the vet felt a lump in his stomach. The vet asked all the usual questions like:

Is he eating OK?
Is he drinking OK?
Does he seem happy in himself?
Does he flinch when you stroke his stomach?
Is he going to toilet OK?
Has he had any diahorrea or been sick?

The answers we all NO.

The vet insisted on an xray to be taken which it was, and it showed that there was a mass in his stomach so I said operate to see what it is, and when he opened my cat, the vet found that he had a cancer all through his digestive system, and one of his lymph glands had already erupted.

The vet said that he would only live another 20-30 days so I said to the vet not to bring him round. Up to this point my cat did not suffer any pain, a bit of discomfort yes, but not pain. But the vet said that if it was left my cat would have had a very very painful death, which would have included all the lymph nodes erupting, and he would have passed blood when he emptied his bowels and he would have vomited blood. But we found out early.

If you want to remember your cat the way he/she is at the moment please take it to the vet, because you will always remember your cat being happy and pain free. But if you leave it and your cat does have cancer and he is really ill passing blood that would be image you will have, rather than a happy cat.

Although my cat had agressive cancer this does not mean that yours does, the lump could be a furball, something he may have eaten, or constipation, but IT IS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.

I really do wish you luck, and I hope that your cat is fine.

There is only one way to find find out. Please take your cat to the vet now. We can theorize, well maybe, it is a cyst, or maybe, whilst the cat was in the grass it may have picked up a parasite called a tic, even tumors are not always cancerous. The quicker you get your cat to the vet, better the prospect of the treatment being successful. I wish you Merry festivities, and a 'healthy' happy new year to one and all!

A trip to the vet is definitely warranted.

It could be a tumor, or it could be a hernia. We've see that at the clinic from time to time.

Give the vet a call and set up an appointment so you don't make yourself crazy wondering. Then you'll know for sure.

Good Luck.

Alan - A cat of fourteen needs regular vet checks and the vet will investigate the tumor, which hopefully is benign, and can be removed or left alone according to the vet's determination.

I hope everything will be alright. Don't panic, act. That will relieve your stress and benefit the cat if it is something that can be treated.

best to check with the vet but even if it was a tumour it could be benign. Not all tumours are malignant. The sooner you go the sooner you can put your mind at rest

Hi - I think youd be best off taking him to the vets, but if hes not being troubled then I wouldnt worry too much. Older cats get things like this from time to time! :O) Hope hes OK xx

THeres a chance it is worms, usually though it just looks like a bloated belly. Another chance is that its just a sore, or possibly just a fatty tumor, a fatty tumor isnt anything to worry about for now but can become very large. But if you thought he looked like he was pregnant before, its probably just worms, you can buy a de-wormer from your vet for about 12 dollars or less the reason why you never see them in there poop is because they never usually come out unless there dead.

It could be a small umbilical node that you are only just noticing now . Put your mind at ease and take him to the vet just to be sure all is well with him . And , please don't panic . Your cat will sense your anxiety which , will in turn , make him anxious . Good luck to both of you .
