You're expected to buy their books, pay for their "technique" of healing you from your own negativity, pay to take courses, pay to take tests to get to higher levels in the church, pay for more courses and more tests if you fail the tests the first time...

Then, if you get to a high enough level, they tell you that the evil alien ruler Xenu kidnapped millions of people from all around the overpopulated universe, brought them to earth in golden space airplanes and blew them up inside volcanoes. The spirits of these people (or "Body Thetans") were then captured, brainwashed, clustered together and then they stuck to the bodies of the living (or "Thetans"). According to Scientology, they still do it to this day, confusing and hurting us with their "false implanted ideas".

If you get as high up as you can go (Level 8), they tell you that you can move things just by thinking about it and that you can control people by will alone. Tom Cruise is almost there, he's Level 7, and he's supposed to be able to do these things.

If you join, they won't let you see a psychiatrist and won't let you take prescriptions from psychiatrists because they don't believe that anyone is chemically imbalanced or mentally ill. If you speak out against the cult, they will go after you and try to ruin you. If you're a member and don't do what they want, they hold you against your will.

Scientology is an applied religious philosophy. When I say "applied" I mean you actually use it in your life to change or improve existing conditions. It is a very practical religion.
All religions if you learn about them have a basic philosphy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances, and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this, but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does not intrude on anyones faiths of beliefs particularly in the area of God , the Supreme Being, or the Infinite. This area is left totally up to the indivdual, which is why you can be a practicing Jew,for example and still use and apply the priniciples of Scientology in your life. It does not conflict. If anything it will enhance your understanding of your chosen religious practice.
