How can you justify giving money to the homeless in USA or other developed countries, people begging with a beer can in one hand! Would you rather not send that money to a poor woman in Africa or other third world countries, trying to raise her children right and struggling to meet ends just for food?

Ed what is the complaint of poor families in the US.....that they have just one TV or one car. You need a dose of realty. I suggest you give up just alcohol for six months and any extra expenditure and you;ll be able to save enough for a trip abroad. Go to these countries and see the reality. There are people surviving by eating rats. If you still feel someone finds it hard to survive in a US economy because he's accustomed to a certain lifestyle and his job cannot afford it you are sadly mistaken.

Haven't seen too many with beer cans, no, but kids work on me (I don't think I'm telling any secrets here, there's probably a website on homeless/begging marketing tips and schemes somewhere). Sometimes the solo ectopic-shopping-cart driver gets a handout (I figure they have a mission - the 'landed' among homeless types). I usually don't get so involved in their life that I can judge them to be more or less noble, more or less deserving than some woman in Africa with children. All I know is that the one I see is here, and she and her kids are there. Out of sight, out of mind.
Edit: Wow, Rajan, you sound a bit bitter. Sure, there are worse places to be poor but poverty, homelessnes aren't exactly the e-ticket ride anywhere in this world.

I do, on occasion, give money to someone in need. Not all homeless people are there by choice. And, not all homeless people have a "beer can in hand" when they ask for help. There are lots of families in the US that are homeless. Families with children to feed and clothe. For what ever reason, be it a fire in their home, lack of knowledge of finances, or what ever....they are left with no roof over their heads. That does not negate their responsibility to provide for their families no matter how they have to do it. These are the "homeless" people I help when I am able.
I am a firm believer in helping when I can. Even though I am on a small income, there are always those less fortunate than me. And I believe in helping those in my own country first.

No, they're rather too far away from me.
However 'people begging with a beer can in one hand' is a very charming stereotype... as much as I agree with the basic point you're trying to get at, poverty is a terrible thing _wherever_ it occurs and if you think that there are no Americans trying to raise their children right and struggling to make ends meet just for food, you have clearly never seen the real USA - theone Hollywood films don't show...

S.. extra effective extra we already spend lots on social classes aimed in direction of helping the adverse and it has achieved no longer something. take a check out teh volume of money the U. S. has spent over the a protracted time on Poverty and take a check out the poverty fees you will see they do no longer decline. you may grant each and all the help interior the worldwide yet for a individual to alter their techniques and get out of the placement they're in it would be self brought about and initiated. maximum homeless are there because of fact they decline to stay sober or take drugs for his or her psychological ailments. i've got had to handle 2 pooping and peeing on certainly one of my companies. they had additionally bypass away beer bottles in each single place and one hit my automobile along with his procuring cart leaving me a dent that value $750 to have fixed.

I occasionally give money at red lights and stuff. Just because they are alcoholics or self medicating or self medicating other mental illness does not mean that we should not have pity. Walk a mile in those moccasins before you condemn them. Though mental illness is only detected in bad or inappropriate choices does not mean that it is not a legitimate illness or that God loves them less.
As to the people needing help in 3rd world countries, yes we should give to that cause as well. We should give when we have any chance.

No. I'd rather donate money to send birthcontrol to those third world countries so they stop overpopulating their area and eating more than the land will produce. Solve the problems. Not the symptoms.

There is a difference between being 'poor' in an advanced culture, and being Status Quo in a third world country.
