Is this an opinion paper?
Well, alot of it is about ethics. It is more ethical to test something on an animal than a human. That's why experiments that involve human participants are so closely watched and restricted by so many laws. You can get away with alot more on an animal than with a human being.
I'm not sure what kind of animals are used for COSMETIC testing, but everyone knows that in many experiments for medicines, etc. rats are used. I think the reason scientists get away with this is because to most people rats are detestable. I think we take something that we see as dirty, annoying, and useless and turn it into our test subject, because nobody likes rats anyway right? But I still think it's sad even if they are disease-ridden.

Acording to Wikipedia:
"(Animal) Experiments can be split into three broad, overlapping categories: pure research, in which experiments are conducted that have no direct commercial application, with a view to advancing knowledge, most often inside universities; applied research, conducted in order to solve specific biological problems or to develop commercial products, either for medical or non-medical use; and toxicology or safety testing, in which commercial products are tested on animals to measure potential adverse biological reactions to the ingredients."
You can find much more information at the Wikipedia article, or by Googling "animal testing".
Good luck!

So that biatches Paris Hilton and Britney won't sue the cosmetic companies for giving them harmful products. That's why animals are used. They should test cosmetics first on biatch Hitlon's poop dog first.
