My BF and I have had marriage talk but then I wonder how we would get married. He is Buddhist and I was raised Catholic, but I have Buddhist beliefs. I would like something small and traditional. Only reason I would want to get married through the catholic church is for respect to my father and rest of the family. But at the same time this wedding is supposed to make my BF and i happy. So I was just wondering what you alll thought and if youve been to a buddhist wedding how was it??

Heres the other thing, we are both mexican and would like to have mariachis at the reception, would that be a total clash with a buddhist wedding??

I am a theravada buddhist;been to a few buddhist wedding.Basically it is very simple. After everyone have made themselves comfortable,
the monk in our centre does the following:
1.Asked everyone to recite after him the salutation to the Buddha(3x)
2.Taking refuge in the triple gems.Devotees recite after the monk.
3.Taking the five precepts. "
4.The monk would then chant sutta of blessing such as the "Karaniya Metta Sutta".
5.The monk would give a talk on a subject related to marriage.
6.Monk then bless the newly wed and everyone present.
7.The newly wed then would invite the monk for food dana and also offer robe to the monk.

I am a Srilanken and Buddhist .... There are no such thing saying Buddhist wedding... Buddha dos not say anything about marriage. and also Buddhism dos not apply any hard rules to the life...

In Srilanka we have wedding ceremony only according to our culture. and we worship Buddha.. That's all...

if you relay wants to marry according to Buddhism jest don't get any meat to the ceremony....but it is not hard fast rule.. but just a tradition... and also not said by Buddha....

I wish you have a good and with full of love married life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
