B and Q have one off the shelf. However, it'll take a lot of years use before you cover the cost. You can buy them on the internet and again the cost is pretty steep. Another problem is the weight. They are very heavy, the one I looked at was 55Kgs. Imagine the damage that would do to the structure of your home when combined with a level of vibration.
You can obtain a grant for erecting one of these but it is a small percentage of the new cost. I'm told that you can sell surplus electricity to the national grid, but without masses of safeguards, your equipment could be at risk.

Depends on how much electric you need, how windy your site is etc.

the best place for answers is the Centre for Alternative Technology Wales www.cat.org.uk
they run courses on how to build your own, also provide information sheets etc. Well worth a visit

Generally, if you are on the National Grid, it will cost more to install your own wind turbine than switch to a renewable energy supplier.

I think they're selling them at B&Q now, but unless you live in a very windy area you'll probably not get your money back in terms of power generated. I think the British Wind Energy Assn also has a website.
