I am assuming you could actually eat but the actual problem is the pain caused by the sores while trying to eat. So the best advise would be to go to a Walgreens, CVS, or Walmart type store and by an "oral anesthetic." A popular brand is Anbesol. Within 10 seconds the sores will be numb and you will have no pain. DO NOT get the anesthetic on your tongue or lips unless you have to. You want to still be able to eat when the pain is gone. And make sure you take a daily multi-vitamin like Centrum just in case.

I hate cancer sores. Try gargling with warm water & salt. Normally you get cancer sores for eating acid-like foods, like Ketchup which I'm a big fan of. But if oatmeal is working for you than keep trying it.

Just put some Orabase or Oragel on them to numb them and eat whatever you want to. Although I would probably stay away from the really acidic stuff until they heal.

gargle with salty water. Then eat stuff that is not to hot. Heat brings more blood to the surface and cold reduces it.
