Since I travel to the Philippines twice a year and also plan on retiring there within seven years, I am not only studying Tagalog (to be able to understand newspaper, radio and TV) but also two Visayan dialects: Cebuano and Waray-Waray since I'll be living in places where both those languages are spoken.
I've studied lots of languages before and Filipino languages are much more figurative than literal. I find I am learning as much about Filipino culture and ways of approaching life as I am in learning the actual languages!
