if fI have my grandpa's WWII Service # where would I go to find out all his awards?

I have received my Grandfathers burial flag, and I want to put it in a nice case. I would like to know his years of service, metals won, anything else I could find.

When I was in the army and was discharged it was recomended that the discharge be registered at the local county court house so copies of it could be obtained easily in case the original documents were lost or stolen. If you know where his residence was at the time of his discharge then start there. If that proves to be a dead end contact the veterans of foriegn wars administration and see what they can do for you. They will be listed in the U.S. government pages of the phonebook. Beyond that I don.t know what to say but good luck.

Try these sites, they have a lot of useful information on it. I have been researching my Uncle's WWII records, they are gone now because there was a fire in 1973 that burned almost all of the records, the only thing they had was a proof of enlistment and the place and date he died. I also found that his name is on a wall of missing in Italy where he was killed so I was able to send for a picture of it. It is awesome if you can get the info that you are looking for.
