If she has a crock pot (slow cooker) she can keep the egg nog in it on low. You can also warm it on the stove in a non-stick pot on the lowest setting. Keep it covered as to not get to thick or get a film. Add a cinnamon stick after pouring it into your cup.
I love egg nog better hot than cold. Add a splash of brandy after heating for a hot toddy!

Use a double boiler to prevent scorching and to keep the heat increase controlled. The steam from the lower pot heats the egg nog slowly and does not burn it.

put it in a ban marie:
Take a large pot of water and simmer on low. Then put egg nog in another container that fits on top of the pot, but doesn't touch the bottom. That will do it.
I personally don't like it hot, but that's the way you do it.

Hot eggnog? That is a very strange idea. It would taste like melted vanilla ice cream. Eggnog should be served cold. There are some good recipes for punch and hot toddies that are served warm. Hot buttered rum is one of my family's favorites. Any hot punch can be warmed in a Crockpot, then poured into a punch bowl, or ladled directly into mugs or cups.

Like milk, I've found putting it in a clean pot for a couple of minutes on a warm stove warm it up. Keep it on a low setting and pour it out into glasses when ready. A lid on top with the low setting will keep it protected.

Heat it on low heat on the stove, and stir very frequently.
