My wife ran this vehicle out of gas. I have added fuel to it (about 1/4 tank) but it seems it's not getting any gas when I try to crank it.

See page 61 of the owners manual that you can download for freefrom the link below

https://web.msslib.dealerconnection.com/RightSite/getcontent/myfile.pdf?DMW_OBJECTID=09000c588022037c

I recommend the download, rather than just telling you because there are saffety procedures & warnings that you need to heed.

I also think it might NOT be the switch . The fuel pump itself could be bad. If you run out of gas completely, you can sometimes damage your fuel pump.
the pump is inside your fuel tank & fuel is the lubricant for the pump, A pump running with no lubricant is not a good thing.

The download that I provided is for a 1996 windstar & it is the entire owners manual & is kind of a long one if your 'on dial-up' so be patient.

If you cannot download & print (or save)now ...the reset button is in the little compartment where your jack is in the rear cargo area of your van. But Please read the manual.

By the way , I don't build 'em or repair 'em...but I am a Ford Certified (Master) Sales Consultant

I hope this helps..good luck !

Seeing as how it's a van you won't find it in the trunk. Yoi should under the dash board near the brake pedal arm for a small red button. If you don't find it there look in the rear hatch area, possibly in one of the storage compartments usually on the same side as the gas-filler.

its in the back right hand side of vehicle in storage compartment . just press red button down. if that dont work try having someone tap on bottom of fuel tank with a mallot while cranking engine, if it starts you need a fuel pump

I'm thinking it's in the trunk, on the left hand side towards the back.
I had a freind that hit a bump in our driveway and it shut the car down every time. We found it in the trunk and hit the reset button.....fired right up.

Hope this helps.
