My fiancee loves scotch and he drinks it all the time. I want to get hime a really nice bottle for Christmas but I don't know anything about what makes a good scotch. Any suggestions?

Go with a single malt. There are several varieties, but most scotch drinkers like single malts. Start with the site below to find a guide to the different varieties.

Hands down, Oban is the best. It's pretty expensive, but if you want to give a scotch lover a really nice gift, it's worth it. Other than that I recommend McCallan 18 year old. Always buy a single malt, an anything aged over 18 years is a safe bet.

It all depends on what you want to spend. For a good single malt, $50 to $100 price range would be about right. Each region of Scotland produces a different tasting single malt. The Islay malts are usually very smokey and peaty tasting while the highland malts tend to be flowery. Persoanlly, I like Dalmore. It's a smooth flowery type with a definte orange citrusy taste and complex flavors. On the other hand , I like Laphroig for a smokey, peaty taste which is usually an aquired taste.

you might try glenmorangie, glen livet, or oban, there are several different types of scotch and it depends on yout budget. One that I particularly like is called c**k of the north. I met a guy from ireland once that had a bottle and it took him getting most of the way through it to convince him to let me try some.

For a blended scotch. You can't beat "Famous Grouse" very
smooth, add a mixture of your choice. Single malt is too
expensive I couldn't comment!

This might sound bad but try Asda's own. it's cheap and on a blind taste almost impossible to tell from Johnny Walkers Black Label
