OK....so today I went to the doctor for a problem not related to being sick with any type of infection (common cold, flu). So, the nurse come sin, and he is sniffling and coughing a little bit. I know this sounds crazy, but do you think he was sick and can get me sick? I am going home for Winter Break from colege on Monday, and I am trying so hard not to get sick. I have been taking Airborne, and getting as much sleep as I possibly can, considering that it is exam week. He took my blood pressue (meaning he touched me) and was talking somewhat close to me as he was asking me questions. I know this sounds borderline paranoia, but I truly do not want to get sick. Do you think I am overreacting and am going to be fine? Please help...

No, I think the same way. I do not see the purpose of going to the doctor if you are going to get an untreatable cold from the health care staff.

You're overreacting. He is under pressure to come to work with a cold just like all other employees. Just take normal precautions and if you get sick, you get sick. My significant other was living in fear because he used to catch colds a lot and really suffered when he did. I wondered what he would do with me because I have a son who was living in a group home at the time, and my son always seemed to have a cold on his weekends home. Plus I am a terrible housekeeper, though I never get sick. For some reason, my man has only had 3 colds in the 8 years since we got this house together, even though he was sick all the time before. I haven't had a cold in about 10 years even though I never make any effort to stay away from sick people. If you're going to get it, you're going to get it and there isn;t much you can do about it.

As long as he washed his hands before and after he touched you, there is not much you can do. How do you know he was sick? Could he have bad allergies? You could pick up a cold just sitting in a class or in the waiting room of the doctor's office.

Most people who work in health care need to report to work unless they have a fever over 101 or are vomiting. Otherwise, they need to be there. The sniffles are not an excuse to call in.

Just going to the doctors office can get you sick even if no one is coughing or sneezing around you. There are sick patients there all day long that are wiping there running nose with their fingers and then flipping through the magazines in the lobby. To try to prevent getting sick continue to take the airborne or zinc lozenges. Other than that i don't know what to tell you other than if you are going to the doctor carry a hand sanitizer like purell with you and avoid touching your mouth, nose, eyes or anything until after you have washed your hands.

No. When I go to the Docor's office, I never read the magazines there because I do not know what kind of germs have been on them. Never touch your face with the palms of your hands when you're in public. My boyfriend told me that a few years ago, and as crazy as I thought it sounded, I've been doing that and I haven't had a cold in four years. Wash your hands frequently. Eat right, and it sounds as though you're doing everything else you can. Have a great vacation!

You will probably be fine if you are taking the Airborne stuff and getting alot of sleep. Also drinking 8 glasses of water a day helps flush your system from any bacteria and viruses! I carry around a anti-bacterial hand gel that also seems to work well! Hope you stay well!

That nasty muthafkka!

It's a RULE that medical personnel should ALWAYS WASH THEIR HANDS after each patient visit. I always call them on that **** and tell 'em to wash their hands before touching me. You're not being paranoid. It's a fact that rhinovirus can be transmitted by touch or by inhaling someones sneeze or cough particulates.

That Airborne crap is a waste of money!

Your probably overreacting. It's that time of year and there will be a bunch of people with colds around you. Just make sure to wash your hands before you touch your face. You'll be fine.
