Best you read the account at Genesis 3:4 again. It states; Jehovah drove the man out and posted at the east of the garden of Eden the cherubs and the flaming blade of a sword that was turning itself continually to guard the way to the tree of life. Whether they knew what a sword was or not, I believe that a flaming one that was continually turning as well as cherubs posted there was plenty for them to realize not to try and come back.

Hi Tony M !!! Where you been?????
To answer your question, let's first read Genesis 3:22,23,24--------
VS.. 22 And the Lord said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
VS. 23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
VS. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden CHERUBIMS, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Adam and Eve knew immediately after eating the fruit that they had sinned, they even tried to hide from God. When their eyes were opened to the knowledge of good and evil then is when they realized they were both naked and were now Ashamed.
The cherubims and the flaming sword, and although not war as we know it but there was war in heaven when satan was cast out.
I believe God knew Adam and Eve , since they now had knowledge like (not the same as) God they knew what the sword was and what it mean't, It was flaming too and as far as we know man had not seen fire yet.
God has infinite wisdom and I'm sure not going to try and second guess him.
Tony M I guess we can just wait and ask him ourselves...If it is still important to us when we get to heaven.
I really enjoy answering your SINCERE questions.
Thanks,
Penny Mae

I've thought a lot about how the story of Adam and Eve is loaded with symbolic lessons for us today...I haven't yet pondered too much over the sword - that's interesting, you're definitely getting me wondering more about that one.

definite, maximum in all possibility there is/are. The so noted as backyard of Eden is merely a factor of our earth. The earth in turn is merely a factor of the the photograph voltaic equipment. Our photograph voltaic equipment is merely a factor of the milky way galaxy. There are approximately a hundred billion stars like our solar interior the milky way galaxy by myself. And there approximately a hundred billion galaxies (in all possibility extra) interior the observable universe.for that reason, that's fairly in all possibility that there are different existence varieties like us someplace accessible.

It was symbolic, the same as the second horsemans sword, and the long double edged sword coming out of Jesus mouth.

Your question is like asking why Mother Goose had the dish run away with the spoon.
Spinning sword..........don't ya think it would have been an Uzi or maybe a shotgun if it was all about YOU?
Lose the ego and your mind will open like a flower.

Adam and Eve were not created in ignorance.
And even if they did not know what a sword was, there knew that it was there to keep them out.

Use a good translation...go back and read about it in Genesis 3: verse 24. the reason is, if God did not do that they could go to the "Tree of Life," and live forever....Come back after you read it and post another question..."The Tree of Life," is this the same as the "Tree of knowledge of good and bad" ????
Peace.......

That is a really great point that emphasized that the bible is often taken literally as the world of God, however for the most part they are accounts of events passed through generations and written by man who is fallible.
At one point in out lives we have all played broken telephone and know that messages are rarely relayed verbatim

The Bible is an elaborate, propagandistic fairy-tale. If you believe it, you may as well believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy too.
