Different types of birds are always found moving around the square and noone is eating them. Why

City of London council has now banned feeding of these birds but people throwing litter down attracts them. With all the fast food about this is bound to attract vermin lke pigeons. Flocks of other wild birds like Starlings are also attracted to the warmer temperatures in the town at night.

The main reason why there are so many pigeons: Humans! Racing pigeons that people have kept over the years lose their way home and as a result keep their homes in busy areas where the source of food and shelter is. Racing pigeons is still a hobby to this day.

People feed those birds, so they stay, and there are no predators to devour them. Here in Chicago, we have pairs of Peregrine Falcons in the downtown area that will swoop down and grab pigeons. Some people are horrified by that, but it does keep the pigeon population checked.

I don't think there are many predators around right smack in the middle of the city.
