what do you think about a girl becoming a cop? I mean do you think girls can become cops or is being a cop just a man's job?

Honestly, I think you would have a better chance of actually getting a job in that line of work if you were female (yea, yea...the whole minority thing, I know).

It is tough, though...don't let anyone kid you. You've got to be able to be as physically strong as the next man because you WILL be in situations where you will have to handle them on your own (or at least until back-up can get to you).

And of course, there is always that stereo-typing from people on the opposite side of the law that think they can get away with anything by a little intimidation of a female police officer. SO...yes...you have to be as mentally strong as you are physically strong.

It isn't impossible, though, to do this if you have the right mind-set. I have a friend who was very meek and the quiet type...and really, you could break her in half with a stick. I watched her on the road once and my jaw dropped. She is a tough cookie....tougher than a lot of men peers...and I can see why..she has to be due to the things I mentioned above (the stereo-typing, etc).

The academy will train you how to deal with all of this. My friend went through the MSP (MIchigan State Police) academy and that is MUCH more rigid than an average academy at a college...very military-like...and they stay right there until they are done for however many weeks it is.

I think that a girl becoming a cop is a great idea, I just found out that I made the list for a police officer recruit and I am a girl. It's not a man job it's for both sexiest, but sometimes things might lean a Little more on the man side, we are supposed to be treated as equals.

It's not so much as to whether a woman should become a cop, but rather if a person (be it man or woman) has the attitude to become a cop. You will be confronted by the more negative side of humanity on the daily basis. Also, because of the uniform, many people will hate you, regardless of how nice you are to them. If you're still unsure, you can always schedule to shadow a law enforcement officer through your local police or sheriffs office.

I think it's perfectly okay for a female to become a cop and that's why I'm currently in the background process with a police dept.

I am currently in the Criminal Justice program. I will graduate in one semester, I will work as a police officer. As a female, I've been told by instructors (male and female) whom are also police officers, that we will take a lot of crap especially from men. We will be called dirty names and people will attempt to bully us "female" officers, out of tickets, arrests, etc. I think with the proper training and the ability to allow this type of behavior not affect the mental capability of the female officer, anyone can be a good officer.

It far from a man's job only concept. It's all about 'How bad do you want it."

Depends on the woman. Being a cop isn't just traffic tickets and donuts. It involves scenarios like pulling a 250lb drunk husband off his his methed out wife. If you can handle it, then go for it.
