Hello everyone,, i am new to this board.... Today is my 9th day on lexapro 5mg. My doctor wanted me to start 10mgs after one week, but i asked for another week because i feel that im not ready for 10 yet. I am experiencing side effects pretty bad... although they are getting better, i have some nausea, headaches, feel a little "out of it", and the one that bothers me the most?! INSOMNIA!! I have to take a xanex at nite just to even be able to fall asleep, and i still wake up all night long. I notice that after i take my pill, for a few hours im kinda jittery, then around 5 hours after i take it im kinda zombied out... I guess what my question is is will these side effects, espicially the insomnia go away with time?? around how long? i need sleep in order to work!! and also my other question is, when i up my dose from 5 to 10mgs next week, will the side effects get worse?? Anyone that has any experience with this please give me some advice..doc says side effects will go away.....

My husband has been on lexapro for 2 years. He had major side effects in the beginning but after about 1 month they subsided. I would give it some time and I don't think taking the increased dosage will make any difference in your side effects. If you still have problems after 3 months I would look into other anti-depressants. Do your research!

Alright I been on Lexapro for about 8 months or 9 months but the side effects some will go away but not all. I experienced the muscle spasms, headaches, 30 pound weight gain, and yeah staying up alot. I am very dependent on this actually and a huge side effect for me is if I forget a pill, and say someone looks at me, I cry for an hour if so. I am on 10mg and thats what I started on and I am 17

The side effects should go away, but it may take a while. I still have weird dreams, and I have been on 10 mg for over 6 months. Increased sweating is also a side effect that I have that has not ever gone away, but these are things that I can live with. After ur body adjusts to it, the nausea and insomnia should go away, but if they don't, ur dr may need to try a different med.

I used to take Lexapro...I forget what it is used for...But most of the med's I have taken have all had side effects....I had gained 100 pounds in about 6 months while on lexapro and I was tired all the time and had insomnia until I stopped taking it......even in low doses of this stuff I would not recommend taking it....I would ask your doc. about other Med's that have less side effects....Some of the older med's work really good in a low dose.

I would not take this med any more.....But please tell your doctor that you are wanting to stop taking it and find something else........Good luck.....Let me know how things go if you want...

I've been taking Lexapro for 6 months and I changed my life. I also had been through years of other medications. I did not have any side effects. Don't be afraid to try other medications until you find the one that is right for you.
