Until that time, only humans as a whole were brought into the issue of sovreignty --- who should rule mankind, God or man themselves. When the issue of Job came up, it became a more individualized issue, each could choose for themselves who they wanted to follow, God or himself. There are a couple things that are interesting in that account.
First, Satan told God to take everything away, God would not, but he allowed Satan to do so, which is not the same as causing it, Satan was not forced to continue with the challenge, he wanted to and did.
Second, he clearly has limits placed upon him, and God only allows him to do so much. The fist part of the challenge God allowed anything to be taken away but Satan could not touch Job himself, and he didn't. When God brought that to Satan's atention that he wasn't winning --- Satan brought the issue further, a man will save his own skin before following God. God allowed Satan again, but with the prohibition that he could not kill Job.
As far as God offering Job, that isn't necessarily true, although I see how it could be assumed. But remember, before this (earlier in the chapter), Satan had come from "roving about in the earth and walking about in it", for what purpose --- Proverbs 27: 11 says "Be wise, make my heart rejoice that I may make a reply to him that is taunting me". Satan constantly taunts God as to the conduct of humans, this was a man that allowed God to make a reply back.

Because God knew Job loved the Lord. God knew that even after all the attacks Satan threw at Job, Job would trust in the Lord and not turn his back.. The question to you is.. If God gave Satan permission to test you. Would you turn from God?

Job 1:12 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

Here is Job 1:12The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger." Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
Sometimes God allows bad things to happen, part of it as a consequence of sin. And sometimes bad stuff just happens. Why does God allow for someone to die at a young age? Or for women to miscarry? I dont know. Somethings we just arent able to understand. But one thing to know for sure that God is good, and that He loves you, and He always knows what He is doing.

I've always hated god in the book of Job. It seems to me that since god is, in fact, omnipotent that he would already know that Job wouldn't stop worshipping him. He shouldn't need to show Satan that Job would do this. The book looks, to me anyway, that Satan sort of tricks god into letting him treat Job badly. They're like little kids making stupid arguments, dares or bets on a playground.

Read God's answer to Job. Why do you think you'll get a better answer here?
My opinion is that the Book of Job is to teach us that punishment and reward is NOT God's plan, much like what we learned from the binding of Isaac -- we learned that human sacrifice is NEVER acceptable to God!

I wouldn't say crucial, Adam missed it. So God said I'll put my spirit on the Earth and them that believe in my Son Jesus will defeat Satan and have life more abundantly. Adam caused everything to be turned up side down.Satan can only control us only when we give him access.

Job is an old testament "type" of Christ.
God allowed evil to have its' way with Job, just as he would later allow evil to have its' way with his own son.
The same limitation applied as well .... no killing.
But when it came to Jesus, Satan couldn't help himself, broke the rules, had Jesus put to death, and so brought about his own destruction.
So the story of Job is really a story about Christ, and about his (and our) ultimate triumph over evil.

Because thats how God works. He lets things run their course. He allows the Devil to test, God doesnt test us. he allows us to be tested to see if we will lose faith or will we remain faithful as did Job.
