Here is the deal my Dad is moving out of town and he is going to give me a couch and some dressers because I dont really have any furniture in my apartment. So I need this stuff. The thing is we need to find a friend with a truck, and do not have the money to rent one. I got my ex boyfriend, who I am still good friends with, to help me out, for free. My Dad hates him and wont accept him coming over to help me. Because my ex is barrowing the truck from his friend I can not take it and drive it myself. So now my Dad wants me to spend the money to rent a truck! Which I think is extremely unreasonable, its like $50-90 and right now its Christmas so I need the money I have! So, I dont know what to do and Im really ticked off at my Dad. He has never really been there for me in my life when I was younger or as an adult and now he cant set his feelings aside for 30-40 min to help me out. I don’t have any friends with a truck. Any suggestions? What would you do about either?

Well, all I can say is thank you all so much for being understanding and suportive of me. Because I am very mad at my dad for being a jerk about this. I agree with all of you. I think he should get over himself and let who ever can help me out. Thank you all again!

Hey Workless,,
“Dad” hasn’t exactly been the poster child for “fatherhood” and now he is still trying to enforce his “rules”/power on you. Something tells me it wouldn’t matter who it was with a truck helping you move the furniture,, dear’ol “dad” wouldn’t be happy with them.
Tell him he either accepts the only help you can afford,, or he can cough up the $$ for a truck rental.
bummer deal,, any male can be a doner,, takes a real MAN to be a Father !! :-(

There are too many other places to get cheap, nice furniture. Let your dad rent the truck (since he doesn't like your method) or do not accept the furniture from him. Chances are, he is trying to do himself a service because he doesn't want to take the furniture with him. Otherwise, he would not care how you got them to your apartment.

If you can't find anything else then just show up with your ex and the truck. If you dad doesn't like it the can simply send you away empty. If you dad is renting he needs to get rid of the stuff too.

Explain this to your father that you do not have the money to pay the truck and you are just using your ex help, because you need it, not because you like him, if he did not accept, tell your father to pay the rent of the truck.

Tell him to leave the stuff in a designated location (like a rented storage space or at his house) while you two come pick it up in his absence. He's being VERY unreasonable about this.

if he's never been there and wouldn't take my terms on picking up the stuff i would say to hell with it and tell him to find someone else to take the stuff.
my dad has never been there but he at least had the decency to not comment on my private life or some of my choices as an adult.

i say you let you EX help you out. If you say that he's never been there for you, why is he trying to tell you what to do now? Tell him to keep his dressers then!
