Tip what you feel the person deserves. There are no hard and fast rules on tipping. If you have ever depended on tips to supplement your meager pay, you understand how much those tips are appreciated. I give my hairdresser anywhere between three and five dollars for a $16 haircut. Sometimes, if she is not busy, she will give me a really good shampoo and massage my head. I have given her as much as $6 on a $16 haircut.

It depends on the service. If you're there forever because she's perming your hair, tip big. I'd usually tip $5 on a $15 haircut, or $10 on services that are $40 and up.

10-20% is normal. If they have been exceptional, much more. I have in occasions seen 100% tips. For example: For a $15 haircut, a 2$ tip is fine.
