Pretty sure I have carpel tunnel and have had it for at least 5 years. Thinking of doing the surgery. Have not seen the specialist, in another town, that says for sure that I have carpel tunnel. My local doctor asked if I wanted the surgery but I said i wanted to do the tests that diagonois first. My local Dr. sent the papers to the specialist last spring. Please tell me what to expect from surgery. I do work, so I am wondering how long I will be down, if they do one or both hands at a time and anything else you can think of that is related. Thanks.

Have you had an EMG test? If you have the surgery, most doctors usually do one side at a time. You are usually down for about 2 weeks before you can go back to work. You probably need to wait about 8 weeks before having the other side done.

I had both hands done at once, 6 years ago, I suffered from it for over 10 years, as I didn't want to lose time from work, but when I was diagnosed they only did one hand at a time, and you were off work 5-6 months per hand. The hand surgeon that did mine said he normally didn't do both at once, told him I want them both done at once, so I only lose 6 weeks from work, vs. 12 weeks, he did them, after all was said and done, wish I had done them sooner. I had an EMG done, prior to having surgery, its a nerve conduction test. Good Luck

some months. I had bilateral surgical technique and regrettably the carpal tunnel got here back 10 years later. it relatively is actual because of compressed nerve in my neck although and not my wrist.

i would try going to the chiropractor - i know it sounds funny, but i had some SERIOUS pain in my right hand for a few years and i mentioned it to my chiro - he pulls out this laser type thing and places it where my pain was - couldn't feel a thing - i thought this is "BS" but let him do it after the third "treatment" my pain was gone and has not come back its been 2 yrs - - believe it or not - it's worth a try. no pain and of course it's cheaper.
good luck!

one hand at a time, off work for month, or so, cant drive, lift ect. is sore, uncomfortable and inconvenient, but worth the results.
