Wow, are you out on a day pass? I was miserable when I was going to church twice a week (sometimes more) and my husband at the time was cheating on me with the pastors daughter and a few other girls from the youth group! I have NO religion now and I'm the happiest Ive ever been! Perhaps you should do a little more research before you post questions that make you look like a complete dumb ***!

Really now? Care to quote your sources? Surely such a statement can be backed up by statistical studies.

Considering the few studies I've seen in various psychological journals said exactly the opposite, I'd love to see your sources as well.

As far as an explaination, here's a fairly straight forward hypothesis for you: People largely believe in things that make them happy, leading to delusional thinking that is reinforced by the happiness it causes. Since people who are not members of organized religious/spiritual groups do not suffer from delusional thinking, they are dealing with reality instead without the delusional reinforcement.

I'm not a member of an organized religion. In fact, my personal belief is that organized religion separates us more than it brings people together because many people believe that their way is the only way, thus closing their minds to differences and to new experiences.

I'm not bitter or frustrated. In fact, I'm very well adjusted. But then again, I'm very open minded and have deep respect for the beliefs of others.

Not true! I do not now and will not ever again belong to any organised religion where they spoon feed you their doctriine. But I am very happy and satisfied with my life. I have a great job, house and lifestyle that I love. I love God, my husband, kids and pets. My kids grew up well adjusted and successful and although I wish I had more money I wouldn't change a thing.

This is nonsense...

What pile of BS did you dig into to find such an obviously bias 'stastic' as this 'misery index' thing?

You might as well just post some other crappy untrue statement which makes a straighter path to toward your narrow minded point: "Christians are better than everyone else."

You can say this kind of thing over and over and over again but it will never gain in truth.

Can you provide some source for that information? I am not part of a religion and have a happy successful life and so do most of the like minded people I know. I do know some nonreligious people with problems but likewise I know miserable religious people.

I haven't seen any such statistics. Personally, I have a really low misery index. My life is great. I also know many others who are atheist. They seem to be very contented, too.

Perhaps that is just how you perceive it. I have know many happy, healthy , well adjusted atheists who live wonderful lives. Some are more Godly than some of the Christians I have known. At least with an atheist you know what you are getting. With a Christian you don't have a clue...could be a pedophile, a drunk using christianity as a cover, etc. At least the atheists are honest and up front about it.

And you evidence is ......?

Have you seen some of the miserable faces coming out of some of the churches?

Happy Clappies are more cheerful, but their attitude turns to hatred if you question some of their beliefs.

Your question is based on what data beyond your own prejudice?
I'm a happy guy who eschews organized religion!
