I've had my cat for 10 years and boyfriend for 10 months. I love both.

My boyfriend can't stop sneezing when he's with me even if I meet him at his house.

Do I give up my cat or find another boyfriend?

First of all, I can't believe that you're actually considering giving up a pet you have cared for and loved for 10 years!!! All, your boyfriend has to do is go to his doctor and tell him he needs a shot for allergies. There is a shot people can get monthly just for this purpose. If you have to give up anything, I'd say your boyfriend would have to go. He can be replaced! Did you ever think that maybe it could be something else like your perfume or hairspray? And if all he's doing is sneezing, so what? It's not like he's puking all the time or has hives!

First of all, I want to suggest that you not "discard" the cat. As people have said, boyfriends (or girlfriends, for that matter) rarely last as long as a cat (no guttering, please).

Secondly, have you tried showering and changing to clean clothes before visiting him? Even if I do admit that "clean" is rarely 100% cathair-free when you have cats. The suggestion that you get a "second wardrobe" at his place was a good one, if you're serious enough about him to want to try, and if he's serious enough about you to want to try.

There are several means to lessen allergic reactions. Antihistamines, long-term effective shots and inhalers. There are also alternative means of treatment. A friend of mine, who was hyper allergic to LOADS of things, underwent acupuncture treatment to help his allergy, and after that his allergies lessened with like 80%. Of course, it doesn't work for everyone and I have no idea how much it would cost, but you can always look into it =)

Your cat has been your 'furry friend' for 10 years and deserves your loyalty. Another boyfriend would be easy to find - so you already know the answer to your query. And I guarantee that if you abandon your cat eventually you will feel extremely guilty and probably end up blaming your boyfriend; hence you risk losing both your cat _and_ your boyfriend! An alternative is to see whether your current boyfriend can be treated for his allergy - or at least get advice on how to minimise his reaction.

If your boyfriend is asking you to get rid of the cat, then get RID of him! There are allergy pills that your boyfriend can get from his doctor. If he likes/loves you enough, he'll do it! My husband is allergic and we work on the situation, so that the cats are happy and he is not sneezing. Ten years is a long time to have a cat and I hope you have her for 10 more!

Sweetheart I had the same problem last year. Me and my Cat have been together forever it seems, my and my then boyfriend it seemed were together for 2 minutes. I got rid of the boyfriend. You and your cat have been together for so much longer and obviously have a more "solid" (haha) relationship than you and boyfriend. And its obvious that boyfriend is miserable if he is sneezing all the time.

Either that or have your boyfriend take allergy medicine.

What ever this is, i could have it desperate earlier you progression in. individually, it does sound like the ex is attempting to have administration over him. I even have self assurance smoke outranks cats via miles. The ex and/or courts probable do not care in any respect what i think of yet they probable could pay attention to an allergist. not in simple terms could i urge him to debate cats with the allergist, i could motivate him to debate smoke with the allergist. you may take photos for cat hypersensitive reactions (and that i've got and saved my 4 toddlers) yet there is not plenty you're able to do for 2nd hand smoke different than ward off it.

I wouldn't give up my cat. Theres a med. for being allergic to cats and dogs. I wouldn't give up either but the boyfriend. Cats are loving. Lets say you gave away the cat... your boyfriend breaks up with you. Then you have neither. I would say keep the cat.

By him a BIG bottle of Benadryl. Make sure he takes it at least 1/2 hour before the two of you are suppose to get together. Change your clothes, too. Always make sure to have clean ones on when you go over.

If that doesn't work, give up the boyfriend or tell him to deal w/it.
