We wake up have a big breakfast and then each person tells what Christmas means to them and the true meaning of Christmas before ANYONE opens their gifts. Then the kids play with their gifts while I prepare supper for the evening and hubby usually goes hunting or something til dinner.

My husband is Guatemalan and he said, christmas for his HUGE family wasn't about presents, it was the whole family getting together and going into town and seeing fireworks, parades, big family dinner, Iglesia, (church) and just spending time with their loved ones. I guess they did give a present or two IF they could afford it, but he grew up not thinking that christmas was all about Santa. It was about Jesus and family togetherness. I really respect that because Christmas has become so commercialized, and all you hear is WANT WANT. We do not buy presents for each other, we only buy for our daughter, and we really enjoy just being together.

WE ARE DIFFERENT I THINK THAN MOST FAMILIES AS WE HAVE TOLD OUR CHILDREN FROM THE BEGINNING THAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT JESUS. THEY KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT SANTA CLAUS AND ST. NICHOLAS. DOES THIS MEAN WE DO NOT CELEBRATE BY GIVING GIFTS? WE DO HAVE PRESENTS AND A TREE. BUT WE ARE MORE ABOUT GIVING THAN RECEIVING.

WE HAVE A BEAUTIFUL NATIVITY SET THAT WE WILL PUT UP CHRISTMAS EVE TO REMIND US OF THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS.

I'm in California, we will celebrate with lots of family, food and as little travel as possible. We will be attending midnight mass on the 24th also to celebrate.
