A 20 min potassium permanganate soak for 5 days will clear the problem however to prevent re-occurrence i would advise washing your feet everyday (and make sure you dry thoroughly- especially between the toes), clean socks every day and ensuring that you don't wear the same pair of shoes 24/7. Natural materials will also allow the skin to 'breathe'. If you suffer from sweaty feet, particularly in between the toes then white spirit applied will help to dry things up. (Or the potassium permanganate for much longer)/

The best treatments are available from your drugstore. However a few suggestions is soaking your feet in a mild solution of laundry bleach...this is why they use bleach or chloride in foot baths at public swimming pools. Wear white sox and bleach them too. Air your shoes and a light sprinkle of sodium bicarbonate on the inside will reduce the odor. Athlete's foot is caused by a fungus that multiplies rapidly between the toes in a warm moist area. The sweat from your feet weakens the skin and make entry easy. People that wear sandals seldom have athelete's foot because the skin is kept dry. Tinactin, undecylenic acid, and even boric acid washes work. But your pharmacist can recommend the best and the most effective product. Disregard silly old stories about peeing on your feet, peroxide and such...use effective products.

gasoline, mineral spirits or turpentine. Terps are the ancient cure. All will demolish the fungus and spores. One application of gasoline for about 8 seconds will do the job.
In JAMA April 11, 1931, Vol 96, No. 15 there is a letter to the editor describing a physician's use of gasoline for Tinea Pedis. I have had an identical experience to his. Once and done.

The old fashioned remedy which really works is potassium pomangenate. It will go purple for a wee while and you will dance like Fred Astaire but it is 100% effective. A more modern but equally effective remedy is Daktarin in either spray or powder or cream form. However, of the two I would opt for the potassium pomangenate. I hope this helps.

You can get lots of creams for it can't you. Canesten can be used as it deals with similar fungal infections.

Also, wash your socks that you wear in a high temperature and wash them regularly, as these will still carry bacteria from your infected foot. Try not to walk around barefoot either, as you could pass the infection on to others or back onto your foot!

Serious answer: Terbinafine cream or lotion. It usually works within three to seven days, unlike other tinea creams which sometimes take weeks.

It's more expensive than other creams like Canesten, but you won't have to buy a second tube.

Terbinafine is the active ingredient, not the brand name.

Go to the tinea cream section of your pharmacy, and check the active ingredient (in fine print) on the box or tube. It has different brands in different countries. "Lamisil" is one brand that may be available in your country.

I haven't tried it but apparently acidophilus works well on athletes foot. Just break open a capsule and apply to the affected area.
