He has to get a cross a wide river only using a boat to carry himself and one other item over at a time. He cannot leave alone the Fox with the Hen, or the Hen with the grain. How does he get all three things across without swimming?

He first takes the hen over to the other side of the river, and leaves it there. He then returns and takes the fox to the other side of the river, but this time he does not return to the other side alone he takes the chicken, so he does not leave it and the fox alone. Once he returns he sets the chicken down and takes the grain to the other side. Then he returns a final time to get the chicken and take it to the other side.

Take Hen across and leave there
Take Fox across and bring back Hen
Leave Hen and take Grain across
Go back and get Hen

First he takes the hen across leaving the fox and grain on side A


Next he takes the grain across leaving the fox on side A...drops off the grain and gets the hen to take back w/him

Then he exchanges the hen for the fox, leaving the hen on Side A and grain on Side B.

He drops off the fox with the grain and returns back for the hen

He crosses with the hen and comes back. He then brings the grain over and brings the hen back with him. After that, he brings the fox over and comes back alone. finally he brings the hen over!
