It all depends upon how many copies are sold. Depending upon the publisher, authors get 10% or less of the cover price for each book sold. So if they charge $7 for the paperback, you get about .70 per book sold. You're better off writing short stories and articles - you can get paid by the word sometimes, or a flat fee. You can also build a reputation that way, which might help you to negotiate more money when you publish a book.
