I was recently perscribed Methocarbamol for my back pain. And I was just wondering what exactly it is. I know its a muscle relaxer but is a narcotic, barbituate or something else? I have random drug tests at work and need to tell them that this medicine might show up. Thanks!

The trade name for it it SOMA, and if you have random drug testing and by chance something does show up just show them your RX, as long as it's prescribed they can't do anything.

Hello, it is not a narcotic and it will not show up on a drug test. The drug Methocarbamol is called Robaxin, it is a muscle relaxer however it does not directly relax tense skeletal muscles, it works mainly thru sedative effects and the mode of action is not clearly known. Pain medications and muscle relaxers work differently in everyone. You may have to try different treatments to see what is best for you. Remember, if you asked 5 MD's and got 5 different answers, who would be right? Whoever recommended the treatment that worked for you of course. Good luck I personally think there are better drugs to treat musko/skel pain. Merry Christmas!

Methocarbamol is not a barbiturate. Since methocarbamol in either oral or parenteral form are sold only with a prescription, you will not be affected even if it does show up during the random drug tests.

(Make sure you do not lose your prescription.)

It is a muscle relaxer. You should not have a problem with drug tests since you can produce the prescription if there are any questions.

It isnt a narcotic its a skeletal muscle relaxant, also called Robaxin. If it is prescribed you should always tell that if taking a drug screen.
