Make sure she is eating a high quality dog food. I really recommend Science Diet. I would also give her Vitacoat Plus (a supplement you simply squirt on her food that tastes good) and a brewers yeast tablet (some dogs will eat it without having to smash it up). They sell these products at Foster and Smith.com (they also have a wonderful mail order catalog which you can request at their website.) Make sure you brush her every day to prevent tangles. For a really bad tangle, work in "No More Tangles" (which Johnson & Johnson makes for kids). You might also consider gining her a short haircut although I love their natural coat. I have Shelties which require a considerable amount of grooming. My female's coat was looking very dry and dull and the Vitacoat Plus and the brewers yeast helped tremendously as well as my frequently bathing and grooming her.

Frequent grooming is the only way. There is not "pill" for hygene. Having experienced the frustration of owning a fine and long haired pet I can suggest a couple of things that helped me. The first is contact your vet about your animal. I found that even though I was usning very reputable brand name foods I was not providing proper nutrition for my pet. My vet also suggested a "leave in" conditioner(the kind specificaly for dogs or cats respectively available at major pet stores) to use with her daily brushing session. I also had to step up the frequency that I bathed her. I went from monthly to weekly. I have also found that having her coat trimmed more frequently helped get rid of split ends that lead to tangles. Hope this helps!

Diet makes a huge difference. Sounds like you dog may not be getting enough of the essential fatty acids in the diet. Makes you wonder what else it is missing. Supplements can be bought at the vet or pet store, Omega 3 & 6's. They will make the coat a lot healthier and easier to manage. Never be afraid to ask your vet these questions they have great products not available at pet stores that are relatively inexpensive.

Make sure your dog is on the best diet for her size. There are hair products that you can use for detangling etc. But I've found that unless you want to devote a LOT of time to brushing and combing and conditioning her coat you might want to ask your groomer about a "puppy" cut. It is short and cute and doesn't tangle like leaving it long.

After each bath be sure to brush and comb those tangles out. My sisters Maltese get tangles around the ears and its bottom watch these areas especially.TRY SOME CHILDREN'S detangler spray and get a good comb and dog brush.

You prevent tangles by brushing several times a day.

call a groomer and ask what they use or just have her groomed. another thing you can do is go to a pet supply store and see what they have for conditioner. i think they may have a leave in conditioner that you can use between bathing.
