At the current time Windos XP is the best prcessor, though SP2 has a lot of bugs its byfar teh most used OS in teh world, so u will not hae any compatibilty issues. You might want to wait for Vista, the newer version of XP. My self I have dual booted XP & Luniux and ou might want to look into that.

The 3K version of BASIC that ran on the commodore 64 in the 80's. Largest selling model of computer in the history of computers. Still have two running today and they never crash or hang up. Excellent computers. Of course it was written by Paul Gates so it has to be perfect, right?

For Servers, I'd say Linux. Because it is Free, extremely reliable and relatively bug free.
For Desktops, I'd say Windows. Because it is full of bugs, is expensive but has a good customer base and tons of software is available :)

MS Server 2003. Since its built on server technology it is more powerful, stable, robust etc.
