There are many online poker sites that continue to accept US-based real-money players. The Online Casino Gambling Directory is the best place to look to find a current, accurate list of such sites along with the site's free, no-deposit bonus offers and initial deposit bonus offers. Click the link below to be taken directly to the lists.
US players that reside in any of IL, IN, LA, MI, NJ, NV, NY, OR, SD, WA, WI: http://theonlinecasinogamblingdirectory.com/s.php?as_usa=1&SRC=YahooAnswers&t=Poker
US players from all other states have a few more choices available: http://theonlinecasinogamblingdirectory.com/s.php?as_usa=2&SRC=YahooAnswers&t=Poker
I recommend four sites in particular for their nice bonuses, great game selection, and excellent sit-and-go tournaments at all stakes. As of this writing, all of these sites take players from any state in the US (as well as all non-US players, of course).
Mansion Poker: http://www.mansion.com/?trackid=192749
FullTilt: http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/?key=MDAwMDJCNTMwMDAwNjhEMjIwODA4MDIxMDAwMDAwMDA
PokerStars: http://www.pokerstars.com/?source=robertmedl.com
Ultimatebet: http://www.incomeaccess.com/processing/clickthrgh.asp?btag=a_9639b_1915
Best of luck!

Bodog.com....they have stated that the law will not stop them from accepting players from anywhere. They are pretty legit, well as legit as any other online casino. I personally have been playing there for quite some time and have had no problems with it...The low-limit games 1/2 NL and under a very loose but get better as you go up....The 2/4 NL are not bad and the 10/20NL are damn good games to sit in on....the PL Omaha and Stud games are straight and the competition is not bad and not to great....just hard to find any other game except for Hold 'em

Okay here's the deal. Regardless of what some ignorant people have written, the new gambling law is not even in effect at this time. It has a 270 day window for the government to decide how to implement this ridiculously badly conceived law. So it will be next summer before it really takes effect. Even then there are no provisions that actually make it illegal to play. The law is focussed on banning financial institutions from transferring money to these sites and banning American companies from setting up business as online gambling sites.
The bill is a slap in the face to democracy. Basically Bill Frist, in an attempt to attract right wing radical Christian voters slipped this bill into an unrelated anti-terror bill knowing it would get voted through. At the time he was considering running for President in '08 and wanted to brag about it. Unfortunately the very base that he was expecting to support him did not vote Republican by the same margin he was expecting. In fact the Republican party got their asses handed to them in the last election. So he realized he is just a nasty sleezeball that no one like, and decided not to run.
It is very likely that if the law is fully implemented at all, it will be very much watered down. Many Democrats have talked about reversing it too, since it was pushed through in such a non-democratic manner. It was a clear abuse of power.
So with that rant out of the way, if you want to play poker online for money no one is going to kick down your door and drag you off to some secret government torture camp. Hundreds of thousands of Americans play poker online for money every day. No one is ever arrested for doing it.
You can use Neteller or a similar company to insert and withdraw money into your poker account. Play for some nice low states and have plenty of fun. Poker Stars even offer 1c/2c games. It's hardly high stakes poker! Check out the link to some different sites that still welcome American players. All of them offer free play money games to try before you buy in for real money. Have fun, and good luck!

I would suggest Pokerstars.com or Fulltiltpoker.com I have had the best experience at those sites and have been playing for the past 5 years online. Partypoker.com no longer allows US players anymore since the law passed.
It is still very easy to deposit money online using Neteller.com or Pokerstars and Fulltilt allow you to do "Instachecks" Via Nexum Financial that allow you to make instant deposits.
Most sites have a %100 matching deposit bonus on your first deposit.
If you don't want to gamble these sites offer "playmoney" games which would be much better than playing with the idiots on Yahoo who just raise, raise, raise every turn regardless...
Have fun and may you always flop quads :)

The two answers above mine are pretty good. Just remember that the players are Yahoo suck pretty bad. Once you start playing for real money, you will encounter players who probably know more about the game than you do. Of course, that's the only way to learn. Just don't think it will be so easy to beat people who have real money on the line.

I used to love to play no limit hold em. But now I hate it. I started out just playing with my friends alot for small amounts of money. Then I started to go to casinos and play for a decent amount of money. Eventually I got tired of other people getting lucky against me and just gave up. I considered myself to be a pretty good player. Like phil hellmuth would say "if luck wasnt involved id when them all."

Some sites like the formerly largest poker site (party poker) has stopped taking us players. Absolute as well has gotten out of the game, but poker-stars and full-tilt are still taking customers at this time, go net-teller to fund your account.
