I would like to put our 32" LCD tv outside on our porch, Do you think the hot/cold will damage it? I will keep a cover on it for dust

The biggest threats to an LCD TV are heat, humitidy, and dust.

All of these exist in their best out doors.

But! its not impossible, in fact I've done it myself. Here is what you need to do though:
1. Bring it back indoors overnight.
At night, especially during the spring and fall, it tends to get cold outside and then warm in the morning, hence condensation. This will doom your LCD TV. In fact, it'd doom just about any TV.
2. Don't be dumb with it.
Will it be negative ten degrees outside tommorow? Bring it back in.
3. Service plans. If you have not bought the TV yet or still have the chance, go back to the store and see if they have a service plan. Manufacturers only have a 1 year deal for parts and labor, the stores like BestBuy and Nebraska Furniture Mart usually cover some themselves.
I know the warranty I get for people covers 4 years, heat, dust, humidity, power surges (including lightning strikes), and wear & tear. If it breaks in 4 years, we come to you to fix it, if we cannot fix it you get a new one for free.

So to sum up:
Yes you can take your TV outside, in fact its not going to hurt to have it out there unattended for a period of time.
But just do not be dumb about it. Would you leave a child unattended in a snowstorm? No. Would you take a computer out into a rain storm? No.

So its gonna be ok if its just lightly used, but just use your best judgement.

As to leaving it outside all year: no. Definitely not. There is to much that can rust, degrade and go haywire. You'd have to live in a pretty picture-perfect place to do that.

Outside Tv Cover

Not a good idea. Its not the heat or cold its the moisture thats your enemy in this situation. Moisture will cause the computer components to short out. Unless you live in a stable dry climate I would atleast invest in an enclosure such as an insulated box that the tv could be protected by when not in use. Now if by chance your porch is enclosed and protected from the elements such as weather then all the better. Just look around at simple things such as nails or metal items that have been on the porch for a long time. If there is rust on any part of these. There will be the same inside your television over time.

Yes, from Sanyo

November 5, 2006 It costs more than three times its non-weatherproof 42 inch equivalent in the Sanyo range, but the CE42LM4WPR flat panel 42 inch LCD Monitor has truly unique qualities which have the potential to open up the outdoor display and advertising market. Suddenly advertising, information services, and promotional activities can be empowered by the use of a 42 inch display at open-air events in all weather and in harsh environments, such as dusty or humid conditions. The ruggedised (our words not theirs, so don’t go dropkicking it around the place) screen now has IP56 weather-resistant accreditation making it viable for a range of industrial and architectural applications including in-factory information services, outdoor home usage in courtyards and pools areas as well as, commercial applications such as clubs and digital signage.

The Weatherproof LCD Monitor is able to resist dust and withstand strong jets of water meeting the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standard IP56. The screen is protected by a non-glare front acrylic panel for damage resistance and easy cleaning.

With a Wide Viewing Angle of 178° the monitor will always be well placed for viewers to enjoy the entertainment whatever the viewing angle.

The Weatherproof LCD Monitor is High Definition-ready and has HDMI with HDCP and Component to produce high quality images. A PC input (D-sub 15pin) makes the monitor ideal for outdoor gaming as it accepts a wide range of PC signals including WXGA, as well as three separate AV inputs with loop-through connections for easy installation of multiple displays.

A panel brightness of 500cd/m2, screen resolution of 1366 x 768 and a contrast ratio of 800:1 all work to produce high quality, realistic and vivid details.

The Weatherproof LCD Monitor has an RS232C interface which enables easy interfacing and has in and out connections capable of a daisy chain.

Prices vary on the Sanyo CE42LM4WPR 42 inch Weatherproof LCD Monitor depending on the marketplace, though as a rule of thumb, take the non-weatherproof price and multiply by three.

Yes a signal booster would help. You can purchase portable aerials with a built in signal booster that I have used with success in the past. However, if you have access to roof space, consider getting a loft aerial which should give you reception very similar to having a roof aerial.

Yes the hot and cold will make the liquid in the LCD expand and contract possibly cracking it or least damaging it.
