Hello. My boyfriend is 22 yrs old and he's under some stress lately because he has a lot of pressure from university (papers due, assignments, etc) This results in his jaw muscles being clenched all the time and the nerves at that area get swollen after too much clenching, which gives him a discomforting feeling. What could he do to soothe the muscles? Will something like an anti-stress squeeze ball help when he is studying? He doesnt like taking pills & medicine & doesn't believe in homeopathy or aromatherapy. Any tips or advice?? Thank you

Your boyfriend does need a way to relieve that stress, and a squeeze-ball certainly wouldn't hurt anything.

Another thing that might help is to massage his head- and I do mean head: From his neck up over his scalp, then down his forehead and around his ears.

And at the soonest possible opportunity, a vacation is in order.

Good luck!

Poor guy, I know the feeling. Stress can really mess us up, causing all sorts of problems!

Well if he doesn't want to take any meds and can't really avoid what is causing the stress (school work) then how about Autogenic Training?

It's a very effective (without mysticism) relaxation technique, I know people who swear by it and do it every day and more often (a few times a day) when the stress is real bad.

He won't be taking anything, there's no side effects, won't cost anything, and it takes only a few minutes! He just gotta find a place to sit/lay still and take it seriously (some people feel silly at first but then they see how silly "feeling silly" is, and how helpfull for their health it can be).

There are a couple of good books out there explaining how to do it. Like anything it might work great for some but not as much for others, but he can't know without trying it first!

Good luck! (I'd gather all meaningfull tips / answers here and show him, let him chose and try whatever he likes, who knows, something might help!)

Follow my advice. Go to the Drug Store, take him with you, and buy a "mouth guard", he will wear this when he is stressed out and especially when sleeping. In sleep, I am quite sure he is "grinding" his teeth. Tell him NO COFFEE, or any drinks with "caffeine" in them. V8,good drink. Lots of water.Tell him the "mouth guard", will prevent the "pressure" on the "jaws", thus eliminating the swelling, pain and discomfort. For aromatherapy, burn "Lavender", it is the most calming of all. You can also "detox" the apartment, room he studies, etc - buy l pkg of "basil" fresh in the grocery store, in a small pot - bring to a medium "boil" and reduce - cook ALL the leaves - let cook on low with lid off for 1/2hr. take off stove, cool, and with a clean sponge wipe down the inside and outside of the doors, especially the Main door to the apt/house. This will keep "negativity" out! and inside it will clear the endowment of ALL. (arguments, pain, bad words, etc). I am a White Witch - we practise only good deeds and we live by truth, harmony, wisdom and Creativity. Good Luck and a very Merry Christmas.
