it's hard to make gray hair red. the color molecules in the red don't penetrate the gray well.
here's a trick.
use the developer on a cotton ball and dab onto your gray hair area before coloring. the developer will soften the gray so the color will be absorbed better.

DO NOT USE HENNA if you've already used store bought haircolour... Unless, that is, you want your hair to smoke and sizzle and burn off.
Henna is a metalic dye, and when mixed with other haircolour causes a chemical reaction on your head which can result in very serious burns.
As for covering the grey you're best bet is to go for a more aubrun colour (it has the red in it) rather than a full blown red. Also (though most professional brand companies recommend against it I've learned that it does help with the demarcation) comb the colour through your hair with a wide tooth comb (like a pick, or bigger) to ensure a thorough colour with no "lines" in about the last 15 minutes of the colour being on your hair.
A 20vol (6%) peroxide should be used when covering grey. And this "porosity control" I would need more explaination on... Are you using it right before you colour, then applying colour? Dont do that. Its best to use something like this after the colour application to "lock in" the colour, or as part of a healthy hair regime on a regular basis. The ends of your hair are the most porous, as they are the "oldest". Try only applying this product to the ends.
If this doesn't work I strongly recommend going to your trusted stylist. I can't stress this enough...

Try using henna! It will show up really bright on your gray hair, and be more subtle on your dark hair, so it will look like you have bright red highlights. Henna is one of the few dyes that works really well on gray hair.

Just be sure to get high-quality henna, and not some mystery mix from the store.

I have naturally red like my avatar (not so bright) I think if you do red with blonde highlights it will help hide the grey!
