Drink LOTS of water. LOTS of it. Sip water more or less constantly throughout the day. This will help you a lot.

Use a vaporizer while you're sleeping, or a humidifier.

Try an expectorant type of cough medicine -- not a suppressant.

You may have developed asthma, but these things will help you cough more productively and cough less. If your cough continues, you might have bronchitis (which you can have in addition to asthma), in which case you'll need antibiotics from your doctor.

Good luck to you! Hope you feel better.

You should go to a health food store and get some Slippery Elm cough drops....they really help. You should also avoid milk products because they are phlegm-inducing. If you are old enough, try a hot toddy to loosen up your cough:

Heat 8oz. of water to just under boiling, then transfer to a large mug.
Squeeze the juice of one whole lemon into the water.
Add sugar or honey to taste.
Add 2 to 2 1/2 oz. brandy or whiskey.
DRINK IT WHILE IT IS HOT. Try to drink it as hot as you can handle.

Toddies are great for a cough. Having one right before bed loosens up all the crap in your chest!
Good luck!
