I am wanting to get my mum a good cookbook on fish for Christmas as she has recently got into cooking fish but doesn't know much about cooking it. I'm wanting something which isn't too advanced and quite modern.
Tried looking on Amazon but i really don't know what i'm looking for! Thanks.

Try looking for books by Rick Stein. He's a celebrity chef in the UK and owns a famous fish restaurant in Padstow, Cornwall. Great recipes - simple food.

Get her "Rick Steins Seafood", - it's a really fab book, and there are some really great easy-to-follow recipes in it. I got mine in September when the paperback came out, and I have since then given it as presents to nearly all my friends (the rest are getting it for X-Mas!). What sets this one apart from all the other cookbooks is that Rick Stein not groups the fish into various species but also by shape; lengthy fleshy fish, flat fish, small round fish and so on, which makes it easy-peasy to find something for every occasion. It costs about £10.

Rick Stein is a brilliant chef with regards to cooking fish...but the best cookbook of the lot is the one that chefs learn from in catering colleges throughout the world and that is 'Practical Cookery' by Ceserani and Kinton, published by Hodder & Stoughton. Your Mum will love it as it not only covers fish but every type of dish and it has pictures too. It's packed with information and easy to follow recipes and guidelines.......It's the best cookbook on the market and as I am a chef for over 35 years now, it is the only cookbook that I would recommend to anyone.
It is not expensive either....look for it on Amazon.com....Good Luck!

Sorry to give the poop on good ol' Rick Stein, but I would always go for the Wonderful 'Floyd on Fish' by Keith Floyd from about ten years ago - a lot more humorous and, to be honest, though I've got Rick's stuff I actually use Floyd more for proper (not overfaffy) cooking.

I have just bought " The essential seafood cookbook" available on AMAZON ..... it's the nuts for all things fishy. Not just fish but seafood and unusual shellfish from all over the world. Also the recipes are easy to follow and most ingrediants are readily available (with a couple of exceptions)
Its a brilliant book and I am sure your mum will be appreciative.

I would suggest Rick Steins English Seafood cookery. I have it in paperback. There are loads of recipe books about fish cookery but if you are looking for a bible of what to do with which fish then this is the one to go for.

I have loads of Ricks recipe books but time na dtime again I come back to the old faithful which tells me the whys and wherefores - not just interesting sauces!

I live by the sea so fish is plentiful and this book is well thumbed!
