Why in the Old Testament does it say that the kings were allowed to have soo many wives and concubines and everyone was always having sex before marraige but everyone thinks it is now an abomination? I don't see why God would think sex is a very big deal. Isn't that what he created man to do? Reproduce?

Ok, so don't shoot me for this, but I don't really think there is too much wrong with marrying a girl off right after puberty. They did it in the bible all the time!

1) God created man and woman to become one flesh (A man should find a wife and the two will become one) that is the family unit/marriage and that is what family is built upon.
2)The bible is not only God's word to man but also documented history. Mankind did things that displeased God (such as taking multiple wives) as well as many other things (idol worship etc) Doesn't mean God thinks it is hunky dorky
3) Sex is not a bad thing as long as it is done within the guidelines (husband and wife)

I personally think that it is because as civilisations and societies change, the concepts of sex, religion and marriage changes.
It used to be in some places and religions, that if a man's brother or brother-in-law died, he was required by his society to marry the widow, even if it was his biological sister.
At one time, kings and rich men were expected to have multiple wives, but society changes and this no longer happens.
There are still places in the world, where one woman and multiple men marriages are practised, although that is becoming rare.
Right now, religious leaders have over most of the world imposed one man one woman marriages, and in the good old USofA, nothing else is accepted in most states. Give it 200 years, and this too may change.
With the selection of male children by many Asian families, we may end up in 20 years with twice as many men as there are women on the planet. I think this is likely to cause many problems, but one possible outcome will be one woman and two men marriages becoming more common.
Reproduction is the way we survive as a species, god blessed or not, and marriage has had very many different practices. The nice thing about them, is that what ever people practice, it seems to work.

God said that to Adam and Eve when they were cast out. Go yee and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. It is true. The earth was still young and still no high population of both man and animals. In the new testament, men abuse that words and punished. God send the ten commandments saying : do not commit adultery, honor your father and mother, do not steal. and others not to mention. Steal covers all sex, money, emotions, etc. If we just have sex and reproduce look at the population and situtation around. If we study deeper what is in the new testament we can better understand God. Hope you can count on this. Merry Christmas! and a prosperous New Year!

That is a good question. The answer is, God did not condone Kings having concubines and many wives. He tolerated it. I think he realizes it's human nature to fall in that way, especially men in power (in my oppinion). He overlooked it for some reason. Fornication generally speaking, is not called an "abomination", homosexual fornication is. Premarital sex is called a sin and the reason is, is because marraige was supposed to resemble something in purpose. One of the purposes of marraige is to be a "type" or a foreshadowing of our relationship with Jesus Christ. The groom is Christ, the bride is the believer, betrothed (which in jewish tradition was as strong as a marraige, so much so that you needed an official divorce to break a betrothal) and then the future groom would prepare a place in his fathers house, Very much like Christ, betrothing us to him when we place our faith in Him and going to His Father's house to prepare a place for us. In jewish tradition, on a night unknown to the bride, the grooms party would arrive, letting her know beforehand by shouting and sounding horns and such. The bride would prepare with her bridesmaids and the groom would collect his bride and the ceremony would commence. Afterwards, as the guests partied down for 7 solid days, the bride and groom would retire to consumate the marraige.....foreshadowing the day Christ would come, on a day unknown, and collect the believers to be united to Him in heaven. Spiritual consumation that is.
That's why any sex outside of marraige ruins the "type". It is also spiritually damaging to the man and the woman. The bible says you become one in the flesh and one in the spirit when you have sex with someone. If you are sleeping around with people you become one with them spiritually and if the relationship doesn't last, which happens all the time now adays...there is a tearing away. Wounded spirits take longer to heal than wounded bodies and make us feel guilty and shameful because we know God does not want that for us.

Because man always felt superior to woman. Even in one of the bibles it stated that if a man became tired of his woman all he had to say was " I divorce thee" and than that woman was no good for another. She was considered trash. As I stated before the Kings added to their convenience in the bible, it will always be a control tool. I'm sure I'm going to get a thumbs down for every time I suggest that ' you reason it out' I do.
Think about it if he created Adam and Eve only, where would the world be if they did not procreate? Why would he punish us for that isn't that one of his laws 'to procreate'. REASON it out folks. Always ask that is how we all learn. Peace and love be with you.

Sex is a very big deal to God. You're not suppose to have sex before marriage. Read the New Testament and what Jesus Christ says about marriage and sex.

God thinks sex outside of marriage and sex with another women while married is bad because it says in the bible that a man is supposed to leave his parents and cleave to his wife and the two are to become one flesh. I you have sex outside of marriage then you are not becoming one flesh as the bible states but you are just having sex. I do know that somewhere in the bible it does say that having sex outside of marrage is wrong I think.

Forget all this crab u r thinking about.
Life is not for fun but a test, to accept God.
If u will not accept God, then it's your choice, but u would be the looser in the after life.
I would recommend to research and search for God.

G'day Portia,
You may well ask why it was legal for men in England to marry "women" as young as 12 years. All in the name of GOD.
Whatever our beliefs may be, it needs to be understood that the Bible (Current version) was written (and published) by MEN.
Now getting back to your question?,,,I think you can see the answer.

Yes reproduce, but not with anyone you decide to have sex with. People do not have affairs to repeoduce. They indulge in their sinful desires. Those desires that violate his laws must be controlled.
