Been dating a girl for only two months,,, We spend alot of time together. Last night had a few cocktails and mentioned the word girlfriend. Its an odd situation - we have agreed to not hook up with others but when I mentioned the word GF she said I was rushing things..... I was sort of embarrased,,, and feel like an idiot. How do I rebound from this and am I taking it to heart a bit too much...

Well, if you have been dating for 2 months, and you have both agreed not to see other people you are in a relationship and she is your girlfriend. Don't feel like an idiot, but ask her about what she thinks you are to each other BEFORE you have a few cocktails.

I would not mention the word girlfriend again for a week or two, perhaps she is the type that takes awhile to be in a relationship and perhaps she needs more time to figure out what she wants. So, I would just continue winning her over by being sweet and nice, take her out, call her occasionaly to let her know that you are thinking about her.
But I would agree with you, 2 months? Seems like you guys are officially together, maybe she wants you to ask him in a romantic way, perhaps after the holidays bring it up again?

I don't think you are taking it to the head. But maybe she needs a little more time. Just give it to her. Maybe she hasn't figured out exactly what she wants because any gurl would be thrilled to have a guy ask them out.
