I personally bid my work in two ways. Certainly taking into account the number of sq. ft. of paintable surface, and number of cuts, etc. in a time frame I have experience in.
Directly I charge anywhere from $20 to $40 per hour,,, and/or $1 per sq. ft. of paintable surface, plus prep, cuts, trim at a slightly higher rate.
Example: a 10 x 12 room, with 8 ft. ceilings I bid out at $352, plus any trim, and prep, usually averaging $500 to be in and out.

Rates vary by region and by community. It costs more to get work done in a congested city, than in a suburb, because the workman spends more time sitting in traffic. Other factors include ease of set up. For example, we charge less when we can pull in a driveway and get stuff as we need it. On street parking means you have to unload everything, then find a place to park and walk back. Best advice, get some local quotes.
