It started this semester that if I pull a all-nighter studying for exam... (0 mins of sleep and awake the whole next day too) my left pinky would start getting numb like in the middle night when I stay up and stays numb for the next whole day. What does it mean? I think I learned something in EKG and has to do with the heart?

Numbness in part of the 4th and the entire 5th finger (ring and "pinky" fingers) is commonly associated with ulnar nerve compression. The ulnar nerve starts at the side of the neck and joins three main nerves that travel down the arm to the hand. As it crosses the wrist, the ulnar nerve and artery run through the tunnel known as Guyon's canal. After passing through the canal, the ulnar nerve branches out to supply feeling to the little finger and half the ring finger, as well as the small muscles of the hand. Try repositioning (not leaning on it) or padding your elbow if you're seated with your elbow leaning on something.

You should see a doctor. Is your pinky a normal color like the rest of your fingers? If it is then it is probably a nerve problem that is making it numb, maybe a pinched nerve or carpal tunnel. It would only start to rot if it really WAS that the blood wasn't moving, but if that were the case the finger would be blue or purple and probably sore or swollen. If it is just numb it is probably a nerve issue and the blood is flowing just fine. Still, see a doctor. There is probably a way to reverse the numbness, but the longer you wait the more likely it is that it will become irreversible or further damage will be done.

I know exactly what this is. If you study like me I sit in one spot and I do not move. Your spine is a tricky organ and when you sit just right you pinch off nerves sometimes. It happenend to me my thumb had been going numb and it was right after I studied. My doc said to change positions when you are studying or sittin on the computer. The numbness will last a couple days but it will go away. Try this it really works

Does your lower back hurt too? If the muscles get inflamed it can stimulate your sciatic nerve and cause those symptome.
