I can't stand Patty Murray.
That said, while being politically correct is the norm, I see nothing wrong with saying something having to do with Christmas, if that's what the person believes.
If Murray doesn't believe in God, she's right to call a Christmas tree a "holiday tree." If she DOES believe in God, she's wrong to call it anything else other than what it is.
I hope this makes sense.

I suppose it depends entirely on if the good old USofA is a secular nation or a religious one; if it allows freedom of speech or if only one group of people have the right to speak; if it allows freedom of religion or only one or only allows Christians or if it allows people to not be religious if they want.

Until you change your constitution to reflect the fact that you are want to be a Theocracy, want to only have one state religion, and plan to convert everyone into that religion on pain of death, I guess you will have to allow your first amendment to stand, and allow this Senator to call it whatever the Senator wants.

since the christmas tree was at first a pagan symbol it would be more correct to call it a holiday tree than to associate it with Christ.

Who really cares. Christians will still worship Christ Jesus. And non-believers will celebrate whatever they celebrate.
