Should the teaching of the Koran be banned from the West?

.Allah says in the holy Koran that Men are in charge of women, because Allah made men to be superior to women. If men suspect rebellion from their wives, they should admonish them, refuse sex, and finally beat them to discipline them [Quran 4:34]. Men have the higher rights than women [Quran 2:228], women are worth only half of men [Quran 2:282] and they will inherit only half of that of men (brother, husband) [Quran 4:11; 4:176].

Your women are a tilth for you (to cultivate) so go to your tilth as ye will, and send (good deeds) before you for your souls, and fear Allah, and know that ye will (one day) meet Him. Give glad tidings to believers, (O Muhammad) [Quran 2:223].

When it comes to marries, a woman is worth even much less than a man. A man can marry as many as four legal wives plus as many slave women as possible for sexual indulgence as and when he wants [Koran 4:3, 70:29-32; 4:24].

Allah has also commanded how women should dress:

"And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment save to their own husbands or fathers or husbands' fathers, or their sons. ." [Koran 24:31].

This is appaling and needs to stop .........Koran teachings like this should be banned in the west and burnned

Let me just clarify that men are considered as stronger and the bread winner in Islaam that is why they are discribed as being a degree higher than women and because they are the providers and protecters of woman... If you read the Quran carefully you will also find God commanding men to treat their wives kindly.

The reason men inherit more than women is because they are considered to be the head of the family, i.e the one who puts the food on the table, the provider, so he will need more inheritance.

I am upset that you have added that a man can marry upto four wives and you have stated 'For sexual indulgence'...Can you please tell me where in the Quran where God says men can marry four for sexual indulgence?

You are right men can marry four but there are certain conditions, such as; he must be able to afford it, The Quran also states that if he can't treat them fairly and equally he should marry just one wife...

You are Ignorant....I say this because you lack knowledge of the Quran and Islam, you simply want to pick out bits you are interpreting yourself with no lack of knowledge about it. Islam needs to undergo its own reformation, and take stock of the ideas in the Koran which is unacceptable to the west.
In the West, women enjoy equal rights and are respected as individuals. I believe this approach is the only way for society.
Islam however is still in the middle ages and hasn't reached the age of reason.
It is immoral to subjugate women, to beat women, to take slaves and to have more than one wife.
If Islam cannot come to terms with its past and rethink its spiritual purpose, such teachings should undergo scrutiny and if irreconcilable with Western as well as far Eastern values, then the Koran teachings might have to be controlled, due to the fact that it is a religion which antagonises other faiths.
My hope would be that Muslims reconsider their beliefs like many Christians have over the centuries.
The Catholic church which in its past has been antisemitic, has eventually apologised to the Jewish nation via their Pope, for atrocities committed during the second world war.
Islam must come to terms with the state of Israel, and must respect other faiths and non believers to have a place in a modern world.

No, OK the language is old fashioned and male orientated - but so is the Bible.
Lack of information breeds ignorance and fear among the those who have no knowledge of a belief system.

Not all the Koran sounds so harsh, and if you only cite the less politically correct (offencive to modern thinking) parts you are adding to the problem - and helping to cause racism.

Please think carefully before inciting the less informed to raise up in anger.
I personally am Pagan not Muslim, but I am happy to respect/stand up for the Koran as a teaching tool, to teach its followers the morals and respects that the Muslim community expects from it members. Just as I will defend a Christan's right to live a christian lifestyle. After all they are both stems from the same seed, they are both Abrahamic religions.

One, your quotes are not exact from the Quran, they are translations which are not in any way the same as the actual meaning. Men don't have higher rights than women. They both have the right to work, own land and so on. Except that a man should work, and should give money to his family, while a woman should ensure that her children and husband is taken care of, but if they choose to work, they don't have to give their money to anyone. If they do, it is considered charity. And about the reference to beating their wives. This is a slight little tap, and i mean REALLY little tap, like a nudge. They can't hurt their wives like that physically, your interpretation is wrong.

Ok another thing is you have to understand that women can't have more than one man's babies at the same time, so what would be the purpose of a woman having 4 husbands? Another thing, the population of women is higher than that of men, and is still increasing, so if you paired up every man and woman in the world together, there would be woman left over without any men. What is so wrong with men marrying more than one woman if he treats them the same, is able to look after them the same, and if she agrees to do so. Why should people stop following their religion because YOU don't like it?

And about covering their bodies... What is so wrong with that? Muslims should dress like whores? Is that not disgusting then? What suprises me is that you probably don't find people who dress like whores so disgusting. If women decide to cover their bodies from unwanted male attention, then what is wrong with that? No ones forcing you to do it, so leave them alone.

I have a good working knowledge of the bible and have read it front to back, several times; therefore I can argue with biblical fundies from a position of knowledge.

If I were constantly being proselytized by islamic fundies, and had cause to argue with muslim believers, i would want to have full access to the teachings of the Koran.


the Mormon church has a saying 'Milk before meat' - this means that certain teachings are hidden until you are indocrinated, and the more ridiculous stuff will not be taught to you, until you are hooked by the whole social mormon network

as you have shown in your question, the teachings of the Koran do not stand up to scrutiny from modern, civilized people.... so it is best to have them out in the open where reasonable people can look at the teachings and be disgusted, before they ever have a chance to be indoctrinated.

1. Did u not find the detail birth of child, which professor Moore ..(usa) cliamed that somebody had copied his work from his book, "birth of child" and added it to the Quraan...(beleive MR moore is a muslim today)
2. Did u not find the theory..big bang in the Quraan, which sience proved recently.
3. Did u not read that Quraan had said that metal will, fly, move and float.. (cars, airoplanes,ships) 1426 years who would have dreamt this.
4. Quraan is a book for all times and will not be altered, GOD has said he will protect it until the day of Judgement.....not a word altered...every other book has been altered/changed or man made.

Quraan has solutions to all problems and answers to all questions...Once a Kind old Jewish man said well if the Quraan has the answers to all questions, then kindly tell me from the Quraan what is the price of potatoes, and yes the answer was found, it says go to a Farmer, .....or should u want a house built go to a builder...etc..

trust me thats not all of it, theirs more reasoning or eplaining then just that. they say that men are supior then women becuase men can protect themselves against other people. Women should be taken care of, their gentle and they should be that way. And i know theirs know beating with men and women, no husband treats their wife like that in the muslim religion. And back then women didnt know much about buisness and work thats why most of the men got half becuase they knew more about it and could handle it properly. And men married four women it wasnt because of sex. Long ago when a man was rich and could support more then 2 wives he was allowed to so they wont suffer. Long ago their where many muslim women then muslim man, and everyone didnt have a partner, nobody know has more than one wife. And, I was in a class last night-------studying Genesis. The discussion here was that the Bible was a Patriarch society. Women were only there to do the bidding of men.

It was the society of the times-----on thru the next thousands of years. Should we get rid of the Bible, too?
