no one can give you a proper answer without seeing the dog. or how you handle the dog. you can get books at a library for basic training or go to an obedience class. i train mine and i've helped other people but not without observing. body language is a big help. if your dog is the nervous type, that requires different techniques than the aggressive type. if this is the first dog you've ever had or attempted to train, get help from a professional. then you'll have the knowledge to train future dogs. the wrong training can ruin a dog. it's almost impossible to untrain bad training or bad habits.
and don't wait any longer. most trainers start at 4 months or so. you can teach an old dog new tricks, but it gets harder.

These days there are training classes all over the place, find a trainer you like, then pay for the class.
Your pup is older so your pup has already learned some bad habits. Just go get the class so you can get the basics down.
These classes are for the owner as much as they are for the dog.
Good luck!

Ask your vet for his reccomendations on local obedience training classes & sign up for a basic obedience class. Or go to www.akc.org & search for obedience clubs near you. Since she is an older pup & it sounds like you are overwhelmed, I strongly reccomend an organized class over getting a do-it-yourself book - the bonus of having a experienced trainer to help you with any problems is a great bonus you can't get from a book. Good luck!

Communicate then reward with treats when you get the appropriate behavior. To teach to sit, just push the bum down on to the ground whilst saying "sit". Then reward. Do this until it associates the action with the reward. Then just say sit it should eventually get the message. Be patiant. You can work the rest out from there.

Ask your vet to recommend a local training class - it's high time she was being trained already. Or look in the Yellow Pages.
